I shot the promo on this page with the BMCC EF mount loaner from the DVEStore:

For audio I used an Audio Technica 4027 with a MixPre-D. It would have sounded better with a boom pole and a longer cable and all that I didn't get until after shooting this, but the sound came out pretty well anyway. I shot this in ProRes for the turnaround time, but the green screen business worked out pretty well even so.

My video just made Vimeo Staff Picks! I've never had this happen before I've had over 2000 views in just an hour! "Like" notifications are clogging up my mailbox.

It's a real problem in video mode. In pro res film mode everything is so flat that it wasn't very hard. But I hadn't seen that about the reds until after the shoot.

A short synopsis for the story:
LFO is a dark comedy/drama/Sci-Fi about a man who realizes that he can hypnotise with sound. He starts experimenting on his neighbors, where the abuse of power takes over and, eventually, severe consequences for mankind are at stake.

Tenure is a film about Patriotism and loyalty. It is a modern re-interpretation of the ancient Arabian story of Antar. Filmed in 3 days between March 14th-March 30th 2013. Made with a budget of around £100.

So this was (mostly) done with the Tokina 11-16 2.8?

This is a student fashion show shot on the new sigma 30mm 1.4 art lens. It's in ProRes with a couple raw shots and a couple DSLR shots. It's easy to tell what is the latter, not so much the former. Please download the 1080p copy to really judge the lens:



Overall I really like the lens. No focus hard stops but it's not the end of the world. I really love the shots where the light is flaring into the camera.

First capture of new earth being created? What a trip!

Thanks, Soeren! Yes, I used the Tokina 11-16mm F/2.8 and Canon 17-55mm F/2.8 IS lenses, though probably 40% Tokina, 60% Canon. The Tokina was mine and the Canon was a rental. I wasn't impressed by the build quality of the Canon at all, since it's an EF-S lens, but the optical quality is pretty good. Canon needs to stop building their EF-S lenses like they're toys...

I'm considering the Canon to pair along side my newly purchased Tokina; would you recommend it???

Something done for Monster Energy just earlier this month for the King Shocks HDRA 250 Race in Ridgecrest, California. Several shots from the Black Magic Camera on the ground. All Helicopter and Slow Motion footage from Red Cameras. Nothing to Artistic but some shots to see how the BMC holds up in a high speed situation at 24p. I am pleased

Other than the build quality, yes! It's probably the best zoom lens option for the BMCC in that range, with F/2.8 and Image Stabilisation.

Interesting shot! I am guessing you composed two pieces of footage? I'd feather the transition between them a bit more. The difference in depth of field is visible.

That's exactly what I was aiming for. I wanted that 1970s split diopter look.

Clark, before we can properly critique your test, I think some of us here would like to see a 13:00 test with that old hag, not a 00:13 test! Still it looked good in spite of the awful talent.

I don't know about 13:00 minutes, but here is another clip of my wife from the same day.

Very nice exposure with her cheek almost the brightest part of the shot and detail in deep shadows. Hope you can use her in some narrative work since the camera loves her.

I finally had a chance to shoot with my new camera recently so I thought I would post one of the pieces I worked on. It was a quick, down and dirty shoot with a functioning EF 24-70 2.8 where we had 2 hours to shoot and half a day to edit. We shot ProRes with video and I only did a quick color touch up in FCP. The camera was amazing to work with! The only issue I ran into is that I had to bump up the ISO to 1600, but it only seemed to really affect the edges which we were mostly cutting anyways. That and I couldn't seem to keep my actor from getting shiny... Anyways, hope you enjoy it!

Hey guys,

Had the opportunity to work on a national tvc campaign with a jib last week. Wanted to share my experiences with it and what we had to work with. The footage was all shot in RAW and at 25fps.

We had a few shots to do at a farm and then a larger setup at a distribution centre. I had the chance to work with a very helpful operator and owner Ralph Marshall from flyingcameras.com.au. Once at the farm I rigged the BMCC to the jib with a Canon 16-35mm f2.8l lens. This allowed me to be reasonably wide and stop it down to about f16-f22. No ND was used in the setup.

I was very unsure at first about putting the camera up that far, especially since it was just a bolt with a security washer attached to the wooden camera cage. But after seeing how secure it was with the bolt in place I had no worries.

We also set up the jib at the distribution centre in the afternoon. This allowed us to do a dramatic move from the back end of the trailer of the truck all the way down to the driver getting out of the cab. Again the Canon 16-35mm lens was used stopped down to f18.

This particular setup allowed us to run HD-SDI direct from the camera to 3 monitors (director, and both jib operators). We also had IFB setup from the camera with a direct out of the audio recording in camera. The audio op had a wireless lav on the talent and sent the signal wirelessly to the camera then looped back to the director and I.

practicing the raw workflow:

Shot with Canon 24-70 L 2.8, Heliopan ND-filter. Sometimes the Iris control works, sometimes not - most shots I had to manually expose by the image on the screen, which was quite difficult in bright sunlight. However the latitude given by raw in post is so amazing that I could use some shots that would have been unusable if shot compressed, I think. Raw, and this camera truly rock.

I tape a lot of standup comedy in Austin, TX and although I don't plan to use the BMCC for much, I decided to do a test recently. This was shot at Cap City Comedy Club and the comic's name is John Tole. I used a Canon 28-125mm lens, shot in ProRes with Film Log, graded in FCPX. I should give you a warning, some of the language is NSFW.



I was pretty impressed with how the camera performed considering the lack of light although I did see the split sensor and white pixels occasionally. Those seemed to disappear after grading. I'm also about 70 feet away from the stage. I don't think I'll use the BMCC for standup often, especially for digital delivery. But if I'm in a pinch and especially if someone is planning to release via Blu-ray or iTunes, I think this will definitely work.

Oh, audio is from the sound board and a mic I had planted in the crowd.

Here is a cityscape i did from Lechmere Station in Cambridge, MA. I had to shoot through dirty glass, but I like the exposure.

Look what I shot! First weekend with the BMCC. Love it. Edited in FCP7 and graded in Resolve/AE RAW. Mixture of raw and pro res.

Literally took my new Black Magic Cinema Camera out of the box and shot this in a few hours. I have to say...the image quality is sublime. ♥ this creative tool.

First test for the BMCC in RAW. Shot at 30fps with a Tokina 11-16 F2.8 at 5.6

Took the camera with me on a weekend up to San Francisco, down through Monterrey, and back to Los Angeles.
Color correction is all over the place, im just getting my head around resolve. Shot in prores and raw on a Nikkor 35mm, roikinon 8mm (super soft and wide) and a canon 50 1.2 Graded in resolve, edit in fcpx.
Any tips?

A music video I shot and directed, BMCC at 10-bit ProRes. Wanted to do a prores "test" in a real world production. WARNING: Video is quite sinister and dark.

this is my last work with bmcc as a dop.
we mixed 7d as b cam to bmcc due to productional limitations and that's why i'd like to kill myself just after i saw 7d's footage.

after amazing results of bmcc I can't stand on to shoot with dslr at all.

I graded video myself on davinci with Arri Alexa lut. I like its looks with bmd film log.
