Found this music video shot on "Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro digital film camera and Video Assist 4K monitor". I had nothing to do with it, but thought it a good example in lighting, camera work and choreography.

A still frame from an ongoing fiction project shot in Paraguay and in Paris. I'm a visiting cinematographer on the Paris unit. This city has so many great locations.

James Alexander Barnett, your video is not too shabby either.

Good production value, I really like the colour grading.Blackmagic at it's best.

Been lurking around a lot and finally want to post something. Here's a relaxation video I did recently shot on the bmpcc with simple canon 17-40 with speedbooster. Edited, Color Graded and Audio all done in Resolve.

Pretty sure he used MIR 1B 37mm and Helios 44-2 58mm as he mentioned in another thread.

Fresh from the far reaches of the Western Desert, here's my latest project.

Working with the most remote rock band in Australia, the Desert Stars, we've produced a promo clip for "Tjuntjuntjara". An amazing trip with an great group of musicians - traditional Spinifex men - took us to some very special locations across the Shire of Menzies.

Song by Jay Minning, music produced by Leigh Ivin, clip produced by Flywire Films & Ian Baird.

Gear:
UM4.6K PL (2.4:1 RAW)
Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 (rehoused by Kim Camera)
Mamiya 80mm f/1.9 (PL mount by c7adaptors)
Formatt Firecrest IRND filters

Post production in Resolve 14 Studio.

Thanks for sharing Tristan. Brilliant and flawless work Tristan. Beautiful images and I dig this band! Great tune!

I'd like to know your production method on this video. How many song takes to get all the footage and how you synced it all up so nice. Did they actually do the song in the desert and play along with a playback? Curios to know the process because I may be doing a band in the near future.

I'll echo the compliments, Tristan. And it was nice to see one music video that did NOT do the now-clichéd trick of having the singer sing at a faster speed (to a speeded-up recording) while filming at a higher frame rate so you have a slow-mo clip where the singer's body is moving slowly but the lip-sync is in time to the music. It's a clever trick, but used so frequently that it's now actually refreshing to see a video that doesn't do it.

Nice work and good use of ramping. I agree with Brad and would go further, when I see slow-mow now days I think, whomever shot it ran out of ideas... or the camera work was so bad it was the only way to save it. Slow-mow is so over used its has become the star whip of editing... and if I see another unmotivated slider shot...

Thanks for your positive feedback.

It was quite simple, and primitive; we had a loud rechargeable, bluetooth speaker paired with an iPhone. The band played along to the recording, and this was manually synced on the timeline.

The concept Jay had was to give the feeling he's on a journey - constantly moving back towards his home, Tjuntjuntjara. So we decided all verses and choruses would have their own locations - verses solo, choruses with full band. This meant I could be more conservative with shooting ratios.

Typically I would go to a location and record the band playing to FULL track with multiple passes. Eg. wide, singer (MS, CU), guitar, bass, drums, and alternative. Using that method, it doesn't take long to amass vast quantities of data - especially shooting RAW. You could easily end up with a shooting ratio of 40-50:1

But this time we only shot what we needed; chorus one = band at salt pan; chorus two = band at sandunes etc, etc, so the shooting ratios where much smaller, closer to 10:1.

Brad Hurley wrote:I'll echo the compliments, Tristan. Yeah, over/under cranking is a stylistic choice I always consider carefully. I rarely use it, and wasn't sure whether I wanted to use it for this clip. I deliver at 25fps, so rather than shoot 60fps, I decided to shoot at 50fps (or 200%). That way, if we felt the effect was too much, I could simply re-sync the footage back to realtime without frame interpolation errors.

We decided to keep the "journey" in slow motion - which showcases the beautiful locations - and sync footage in realtime, which has a different energy. It think it moves quite smoothly between those two spaces.

I would like to share the video that I directed and photograpy for a soul band called merian.
Used the URSA mini pro with rokinon 14mm, 24mm and 35mm. Follow focus fotga, monitor EVF SmallHD502, Blackmagic SSD reorder. All was shot in 4.6K RAW.
It took 2 hours to make it because it was raining a little, and the editing and color correction was made in resolve 14 in about 8 hours.

My friend had an idea for an entry in a contest hosted by Samsung, so I helped him shoot this video. And… it won!

The premise of the contest was to do something around Samsungs phone products and services of the future. We chose to use their new digital assistant, “Bixby”.

Shot on my Ursa Mini 4.6K (the scenes in the apartment) and BMPCC (everything else). The drone shots were done by my friend using a Mavic Pro. He forgot to set manual exposure so the Color Stabilizer in Resolve 14 was a huge help in fixing the shots over the city. It worked better than I expected.

Looking back at this, the grading is too inconsistent between shots, but we were on a tight deadline and I figured good audio had priority. Audio was the largest hurdle, all done in Resolve. Needless to say, this had no budget at all. The café and exterior shots were all done with available light.

Hi,

Here is a short film we did a while ago. This film won the 65th National Awards (India) for Best Promotional Film.

The film is shot on BMD Ursa Mini 4.6k EF, most lenses were Nikon through Nikon F to Canon EF adapter. DJI Osmo and Phantom was also used.

I used 3:1 RAW and edited/graded in Resolve Studio. It was also my first project on Resolve ;) .

Feedbacks are welcome.

May as well get this thread pushed back closer to the front page...

I've got another club advertisement video. Shot with the URSA Mini 4.6K (EF), but the big awesome news is that it is edited, graded, & graphics done 100% in Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve 15 Beta. Some additional specs for camera gear. Most of it is UHD ProRes 422 HQ, but at least two dance shots are HD ProRes 444 since I've switched to doing the dance videos in HD ProRes 444 for more recording time on the card and for less hard drive space being taken up. Rokinon Cinema lenses.

I've got a lot more content for the club that plays on their TVs including full dance videos for the girls. I've done a good amount of graphics that plays on the TVs including their full drink menu and a lot of amazing shots of bottles and drinks. Then there are the graphics created 100% in DaVinci Resolve 15 Beta. One graphic announces "Free Shot Friday" on the hour each Friday so people can get their free shot.

A short introduction of my very first shots. As in the clip description it's a handheld shooting without IR UV filter.
It was done with bmpcc + mb speedbooster + sigma 17-50mm f2.8 + variable ND (a cheap one).
Sorry that the music transition is wrong but I cut the original clip in a hurry without editing it.
Your two cents are welcome :)

ps: as for now I hope my shooting and grading capabilities will be better due to the fact that I finally built my rig there's a lot of room to improve :)

Absolutely beautiful production.
I noticed while watching that something was bothering me(probably because I tend to do the same thing I am very aware of framing)a lot of the images are center frame as if you are protecting for 4:3 and I felt that when you had the subject matter either left or right of center the image was richer because the subject matter had so much to look at and reveal.
Thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

On the subject of framing, I have found personally that as a spectator I am more engaged when the subject matter is not in the same position in the frame shot to shot. It is akin to driving down a long stretch of road in the desert with nothing to look at on either side of the road, eventually the brain zones out.
