Okay shot this a year ago, but with the intention of using the footage to promote this year's event. So, I'm a little foggy on all the details.

Shot on the URSA Mini 4.6K
HD ProRes 422 at 23.976 fps (with 60 and 120 fps for slow-motion)
Edited & Graded in DaVinci Resolve

Was put together relatively quickly since the budget wasn't big. But it was fun to shoot.

Here's the first episode of a new tech series I directed & edited in Sydney for AWS (Amazon Web Services) called, This Is My Code.

Four different BMD cameras used:

Cam 1 (mid shot) = UMP + Tokina ATX Pro 28-70/2.8
Cam 2 (mid shot) = UM4.6k PL + Angenieux 28-70/2.6 (rehoused)
Cam 3 (wide) = BMCC MFT + Canon FD 50/2 + Metabones BMPCC Speedbooster
Cam 4 (code close up) = URSA Broadcast + Canon 8-64/2.4 Super16

The graphics were produced by Amazon in-house at the Seattle production office.

Okay, I've got a few videos to share so I'll just do them all together in one post.

First let's start with the oldest video. It's the oldest because I shot it for a model last year on May 2, 2018. I thought I had deleted the footage, but in the fall the files were found on my travel drive when I was sharing it with the director of a music video I was doing color grading & VFX on. So I got the hard drive back around November from the director and decided to move them to my main drives. That was all so when I had time I would edit it. Finally it happened this last week when another model asked to reschedule due to how cold it was. So, here it is. I shot the BTS footage in HD ProRes 422, and the cinematic footage in HD ProRes 444. I just cut them together in Resolve 15 no matter what it was and graded it. It's okay, not great, but came out better than I thought:

Next up is the Valentines Day videos for the Gentlemen's Club I do video for. This was a fun shoot and all the girls were great. A lot of creative thought went into the theme. First time shooting a milk bath, so that was a new experience. Then the roses and rose pedals made it especially interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed the shoot. However, in post I had to work around flashes of flesh that can't be shown. In some areas I did VFX by adding a rose in the water to hide a nipple, and in other areas I just did a blur with the hope that it wasn't noticeable. In the future I say just put black tape X's on the nipples so I have good tracking marks. I hate nudity sometimes. But then again America has Puritan views and in Europe it's far more acceptable. Personally, I only care for the art.

Either way, tech specs on the Valentine's Day content: UHD ProRes 422 HQ at 23.976 fps with 60 fps being used for off-speed recording. Obviously I shot in Film Mode and Graded in DaVinci Resolve 15, which also was used for editing and VFX in Fusion. Rokinon Cinema Lenses and a Digital Juice Slider was used. As well a Benro tripod head.

Valentines Spot 1:

Valentines Spot 2:

Valentines Spot 3:

Hope everyone enjoys these videos. I've got a few more model videos on the books. Part of the delay is waiting for it to warm up. But then I also plan on doing a few more short films this year. Got a lot of content to create, so will be sharing more soon...

Here’s the latest model video for Savannah Cheyenne. Shot at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in Tampa. I used the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini 4.6K with Rokinon Cinema Lenses (16, 24, 35, 50, 85, & 135). I shot in CinemaDNG RAW 4:1 (4,608x1,920) and edited & graded the footage in DaVinci Resolve 15.

This isn't the final edit, waiting for input from the band, but here is my first creative (something other than talking head interview) job shot on the Pocket 4K.

Only one lens, the Meike 25mm T2.2. Mostly natural light, 2 100 watt COBs filling in for the sun when it ducked behind the clouds. RAW 3:1. Grade began from my Pocket709+ LUT.

A short ASMR based horror I shot last summer with the original BMCC and BMPCC for wide, Sigma 18-35mm Art for the main cam, and Samyang 7.5 mm Fisheye F3.5 for the pocket.

Would love to know what people think, especially if you are effected by ASMR videos?

And please share with anyone who watches ASMR or loves horror! Thanks. :D

Closer is a short horror film based on ASMR, and so for the best experience please make sure to watch wearing a good pair of headphones.

ASMR means Automated Sensory Meridian Response, this is a pleasant tingling on the back of the neck and head caused by certain sounds (whispering) or visuals, and which some people use to help relax or to get sleep. Looking for an new angle in horror, it was our own experience and appreciation of ASMR that lead us to create this short.

SYNOPSIS:
Stumbling across ASMR videos late one night, Sarah is intrigued by the phenomenon and its calming effects. When a suspicious video pops up and automatically plays, soon she accidentally ventures down an online rabbit hole. Plagued by phantom whispers and apparitions, she is unsure if everything is in her head or real.

This is the first test I did of the URSA Broadcast with a Canon SD YJ20X8.5B4 KRS Lens. The snow came and went in one day, so I didn't have much time, but I set out to see how the camera coped with with high contrast scenes and to generally see how it and the lens performed. Overall I was pleased but found some limitations with the cheap SD B4 lens.

It's nice - but since you asked what can be better:

You don't see the product until :43 seconds into the spot - that's a problem. You need something to grab attention and highlight the product right away.

The audio isn't very good - her levels are low when compared to the music and that makes hear hard to hear. And she doesn't sound very enthusiastic about the product - that's partly because she's a model and not an actor, but it would be good to have her sound more excited about the product. That can be done with a lot of rehearsals of the script and more direction.

The shots are nice, but I'd try to focus more on how the product fixes a problem - which drives sales of the product.

Great constructive criticism. I especially agree with the length of time before the product appears. Also the music is as often these days too high volume which ruins the video for me.

None of that critique is about the photography, totally different departments. But if I understand correctly, you are also editing this?
About your shoot, you can set up some simple lighting for the interior.

I have used Apple Compressor to reduce the size. The original detail:

Toni, that’s quite an ambitious first test of BRAW 12:1. There’s a lot of detail in the scene. Still I think I’d use less compression because of the detail that may be there in the surroundings. Have you done any side-by-side comparisons with Q5 or 8:1?

Thank you very much for your reply! the problem that day was that I had no SD Card nor a SSD that could write higher then 12:1. Now I got a Sasmung T5 SSD and will try my next shoot in 8:1 or less.

Thank you so much! It's shot with a sigma 18 - 35 with a 1/4 BPM alongisde a Nude FX so that the skin tone gets the atmospheric tones as well. Node structure was a bit complicated!

Photography is very nice, although a bit desaturated for my taste, but that's debatable. Sound is my major concern. Can I assume you were in charge of sound also? Her voice is very "roomy" which adds to the problem of understanding her with the music level too high. Close micing with a good dialogue mic at the very edge of the frame will cut down on the "roomy" sound reflection. Loosing some of the headroom above her in the framing will allow you to get the mic in closer. Adding some sound blankets (cheap moving blankets from Home Depot) on the floor around her will help. Alternately, a micro lav hidden in her clothes will help a lot as well. A good, dedicated, sound technician is a big help on a commercial shoot. Mix your music at least 12db below the voice. Some mix pros will also drop the midrange EQ (300-10,000 hz)on the music to allow a "hole" in the music track for the voice to dominate a bit more.

Just a short video. I didn't use any lighting. I wanted to see if I could get away with just incandescent light. Some shots are a little hot. I'm not sure about the blown-out whites on the windows in some of the shots. I kind of like it, just because it doesn't distract from the shot. Thoughts?

Thanks!
