BMCC on the big screen

PostThu Feb 07, 2013 7:18 am

I've just been hired to shoot a PSA for the MPAA. It's an anti texting/talking/recording during the movie thing. I'm shooting it with the BMCC. It will be a month or two before it's released but it will screen before pretty much every movie in most theaters for what I'm told will be a fairly long run. I'll post any further details as I can.

Congratulations. Do you know what resolution you'll use to shoot and deliver the announcement? Are you going to use RAW? Will it be interesting visually and exercise the camera's capabilities? Would be great if you have some creative latitude and can show more than a shot of people in the audience doing the forbidden things. Of course if you have to follow a script provided by MPAA, understand your hands are tied.

Can you use both formats?
Shoot with RAW and ProRes in mind :)
Would like to hear the results on the upscale to 2K and up.

A jobs a job. But the mpaa needs a serious reform in a few of their policies. Glad you got work and are going to be using the bcc for it, though.

I've spoken to the editor and I think I'm going to have to shoot ProRes due to time constraints. At this point, I've shot enough ProRes and RAW to conclude that if you achieve a good image in camera, and you don't plan on a crazy grade, then ProRes is just stellar. I know there would be a slight resolution advantage in downrezzing to 2k rather than uprezzing from 1080, but it is only slight and I don't really have a choice. That said, I'm totally comfortable that the footage acquired in Prores will look great on the big screen. If anything changes, and I am given the OK, I will shoot RAW, just because...

It was 6€ incl. shipping for a anti glare foil from "Brando" for the amazon kindle. I cut it self, because the kindle has a larger screen.
