Lens for aerial cinematography

PostSun Aug 07, 2016 3:39 pm

Help on lens for aerial filming.

I will be using the Ursa Mini 4.6 for some aerial filming (drone).

Which wide angle lens should I use ?

Im thinking of a light prime lens and it doesnt need to be a very bright lens because all filming will be done in sunny days.
Im used to a 15 mm MFT lens that does the job right on my other cameras.

Thanks

That's gotta be some hefty drone to carry an URSA Mini!

Which model are you using?

A 20-25mm might be sufficient to give you a similar field of view as your 15mm MFT lens. But I'm guessing since you didn't mention the size of the sensor(s) on the other cameras.

A Zeiss ZF 18mm wi the EF adapter is a great wide angle, not too heavy, and does not stick out, like zooms do. I have one available with follow focus and Iris gears attached for in flight control of the lens settings.
You,can also, get this lens in a EF version which gives Iris control through a EF camera.

try out a normal lens as well.
35mm or 50mm.

some of the best aerial photography i've seen has been from non wide-angle lenses.

Hi

MFT - micro 4/3.

Thanks

A 21mm lens on the URSA Mini 4.6K sensor will be very close to matching the field of view of a 15mm lens on a traditional MFT camera.

Hi Joao

As you're using the M600 I think you're using the Ronin-MX too, right? Had you any luck until now balancing the Ursa Mini 4.6k on it?

I'm looking for the same setup but will be sure that it fits before buying one.

Thank you
