Micro Studio 4K lenses

PostMon Aug 08, 2016 10:55 am

Hello
I would like to buy a Micro Studio camera with a Ultra wide (circular) lense
But I don`t know what angle of view I will have

I would like to set up a 360` rig with BMMSC (because with GoPro it is not serious)
I need a lense with 180` or bigger angle of view
If it possible to set up rig with 3 cameras?

I have found some lenses of Rokinon, Samyang and Lensbaby with 180 degree angle
But, if the crop of BMMSC is 2.5 (or some like) - Is it means that I will have angle less than 100 degree?

Do you mean 360 degrees around the horizon or 360 degrees in any direction meaning complete coverage of the zenith, nadir, and equator if you understand what I mean?

The crop factor comes into play as you suspected so a fisheye with 180 degrees coverage will give you a smaller angle of view. You need good overlap so the software can stitch together a useful image.

Thank, Rick

I have stitched about 20 videos in 360 from GoPro
I know theory and have good practiсe
But now I would like to step up and use professional hardware
Because I need normal synchronization and picture quality

But I can`t get BMMSC and 180 degree lenses with some rental. I have to buy them only
I need to understand how many cameras I need to have at least 360x270 degree video. In future we will use them for live stream
I have seen some rigs of 360designs.io, but their price is to high for me and I have already some BMMSC

P.S. Sorry for my english

A 10mm lens like the SLR Magic is going to give you about a 72-degree AOV ( horizontal), if this helps. Pro quality Super 16 ultra wides are available, but not cheap. A 8.5mm will give you about 81-degrees, while something approaching 6mm will be close to 98-degrees. The Micro Studio camera is only slightly larger than the gate size in a S16 film camera (the Micro Cinema camera sensor is slightly smaller), so their lens specifications will be a close fit to the Micro Studio camera.
Cheers

Thanks Denny

Ok. But how about guys from 360designs.io ? They can give you set with 3 cameras
And now I can`t understand how they can do it.
From their site
HFOV 450 degrees – perfect for live use, 30 degrees of overlap per stitch line for post production
VFOV 380 degrees – fully spherical video, no zenith or nadir hole

Three very high quality, brand name fisheye lenses, featuring custom lens barrels by 360 Designs, and professionally calibrated and matched per camera

Thanks

Reading their website, they admit it ain't easy or cheap to do live streaming of 360x360 degrees with their Eye-3 that is apparently designed for it, but they recommend starting with the Eye-4. They aren't using proprietary software to stitch the images, but perhaps the lens is proprietary since all they tell you about it is that is a 190 degree lens so exceeds fisheye in that sense, but there is the considerable crop factor that should significantly reduce the angle of view unless they've done something to reduce the crop like an integrated Speed Booster with the lens. They aren't telling everything you want to know, but I'm sure their lens is the secret sauce and a significant reason for the high cost if it truly produces a usable broadcast image.

Its likely the Fujinon FE185C086HA-1 with an adapter from C-Mount to MFT. Should give you 185 degrees horizontal and 157-158 degrees vertical. Set the camera on its side and that should get you the 180 vertical with very little overlap and 360 degrees on the horizon with about 30% overlap.

Any idea how much of a pain it is to shoot with fixed focus? Isn't the depth of field pretty shallow on such a fast lens?

Short focal lengths increase depth of field dramatically.

Fixed focus wide angle lenses, are useually set at their Hyperfocal distance, so depending on your f/stop, you can have everything from 1-3 feet to inf. in focus.
