V mount dummy battery

PostFri Aug 19, 2016 3:23 pm

Thought I'd share my experience with this for anyone interested.
I bought a dummy V mount battery brand/model: DOF F2-BP
to use as a spare battery with my V mount powered LED light panel.
Attached to it are two "Insten" brand NP-F550 batteries(supposed 2500mah).
I figured for shits and giggles that I'd try it on my Ursa Mini expecting zero results.
Lo and behold, it worked! I thought the amperage would be too low.
I did a record duration test with LCD open recording at prores HD proxy.
It ran the camera for 1 hour and 12 mins before shutting off. No bad for a setup that cost me $60.CAD
By no means will this be a primary source for powering my Ursa,
but good to know that it can be used in a bind when travelling to remote locations.
Planning on another test with BB-6 dummy NP-F packs loaded with eneloop pro AA cells.

I got one of those for a backup for my AB Gold mount battery. The DTap on mine is direct to the battery pack, however, no isolation circuits inside, just an "In series" wiring job to get 14.5VDC the A p hour stays the same as the NP battery being used. So use it with care, no high amp draw loads, or it will fry.
Cheers

Good to know. I definitely intend to be very careful and use them primarily on my LED panel lights.
I tested the D-Tap of the adapter with a multi meter and it is not regulated.
Output is 16.8V same as the main contacts.

Yes, it is just direct wired to the battery, mine does have a fuse though, Which is good. Cheers

I run similar setup on my ursa to get weight down while using my Steadicam. Can't put a Vlock as counter weight.
