Yes, some people have a V1 and it works fine, and there are others like me that it doesn't. No one seems to really know why but it must be that copies produced in a certain time period work, and others don't. The first post should probably be edited to reflect that there are mixed results for the 24-70/2.8L V1.
I do not have my lens with me right now, because I try not to carry around gear that I have up for sale while I am working. I don't like to tempt fate like that. However, I will be home in 5 hours and will be shooting a video demoing the lens on my BMCC so people can see it for themselves. I don't know why my lens works and some don't, but it does.
