Cleaning sensor?

PostMon Feb 25, 2013 8:07 am

It's pretty bad to have a dirty sensor when shooting at small apertures. Besides using rocket blowers and such, what is a good way to clean the BMCC sensor?

There's a piece of equipment called an 'Arctic Butterfly', that is designed to clean sensors.

A brush with lights that SPINS!

Though in all seriousness, a sensor is a ridiculously fragile thing. So you can't just use any old thing to clean it. $130 is an investment in better quality images. Shop around and you could probably find one for much cheaper.

You won't be able to get to the sensor as it is sealed behind a glass filter. Just make sure the glass filter is clean.

Thanks Kristian. Is there a recommended procedure for this? Or is the glass far enough away from the sensor that dust won't be a problem?

Minor dust won't be an issue but if you put a smudge on, it could possible show up when using a smaller aperture and telescopic lenses. I would take the normal precaution you would with any camera and try to keep contaminants away from the sensor area.
