Contact Mirror Shot

PostFri Jan 20, 2017 2:08 pm

This coming out the mirror shot from Contact has been very popular and confused a lot of people on how it was done, so thought I'd do a tutorial on how I recreated it.

let me know your thoughts :)

Great Video.
Instantly reminded me of the boggart scene in Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban.

It uses the effect twice(!) even flipping the whole classroom horizontally (which is a logical side-effect I noticed even some big movies doing wrong with this effect).
I must admit, that I hadn't noticed the impact of that effect until I recently watched this movie again.

Not to be a jerk, but yours isn't quite there.

In the original version when she opens the cupboard the mirror reflects/swivels like you'd expect. In yours, it kinda just sits there. It doesn't look right. Everything until then looks great, and then that part is off.

Perhaps you could add tracking markers to the mirror. Track the motion, and then apply the mask to the tracked footage.

yes, but you cant do that with just tracking, you have to swivel the camera the same as the door to reflect the side, which i couldn't do successfully on the ronin.
