What Lenses are effected by the Flange Issue?

PostFri Mar 01, 2013 6:26 pm

I think it would be interesting to get a feel for what lenses are having issues due to the flange issue discussed elsewhere. It's pretty obvious the the Tokina 11-16 has issues at 11. So what other lenses have people noticed problems with?

I only ask because I am on the fence about sending in my camera for recaliberation. I have a handful of Rokinon and a Canon L lens that seem to be fine for the most part but I may be interested in upgrading my lenses in the future and it would be helpful to know what other lenses may cause me problems.

What I have that seems OK as far as I can tell.

Rokinon 8mm T3.5 Cine

Rokinon 14mm F2.8

Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine

Rokinon 35mm F1.4

Canon 100mm F2.8L Macro IS

So I had some time to sit down this morning with all my lenses and test infinity focus on all of them. It seems they are all ok except my Rokinon 8mm T3.5. It is ever so slightly soft at infinity. It is just enough to cause problems. Instead of sending my camera in for two weeks is there a way of making a minor adjustment to my lens to get it where it needs to be?

I would not recommend it Brad,
Better you send the camera in, Trying to adjust the lens may bork it, and or make it unusable on other cameras.

My Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Planar T* ZE will not focus to infinity, I wouldn't dare trying a DIY solution on the lens.

I have infinity focus issues with the following lenses which I tested at f4.0 to allow for blurriness from wide open iris :

Clear infinity focus issue:
- Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 Version 1 : works from 15-16mm

Possibly - meaning "possibly just a wee wee little tad lacking":
- Zeiss ZE 50mm f1.4
- Zeiss ZE 85mm f1.4

Working nice:
- Canon EF 70-200mm f4 non IS
- Canon EF 85mm f1.8
- Canon EF 50mm f1.8
- Canon EF 24-105mm f4
- Sigma 24mm f1.8 EX DG MACRO EF mount old version

My work horse:
- Nikon 17-35mm AFS Nikkor f2.8 ED
