Thalia primes from Leica!

PostWed Mar 29, 2017 2:58 am

Now here's something I'd love in another lifetime. Leica's answer for everything with a vintage look.

They're pretty slow for primes. I wonder what they will be priced at?

Thank Rick, a prime lens worthy of the UM Pro, now if only I could win the Lottery :!:

Unlike so called "faster" Primes that are only sharp stoped down, Leica lenses can be used from their max f/stop down, and are in many cases sharper at the wider f/stops. So while T2.6 to T3 seems "slow" they are quite useable at T2.6 or T3 etc.

They're fast for lenses that cover that image circle. They're based on the medium format Leica S lenses. They're designed for the Alexa 65 et al.

Yeah, that makes sense. I kinda glossed over the large format part when I read the article the first time.

Thalia primes from Leica!

I think they're very impressive in terms of their size (95mm diameter just like there other high-end lenses with much smaller image circles) and their reduced weight. Certainly I can never use these lenses, but I admire Leica pursuing the art of a lens while Zeiss is fixated on the science of a lens. Would love to see sample footage with its gently curved focal plane (can you believe it in 2017?) especially on a Super 35 sensor as well as Alexa 65.
