List of HDMI field monitors that work.

PostSun Mar 10, 2013 9:24 pm

I bought an SDI to HDMI converter and was looking to use a HDMI budget monitor for my BMCC. I noticed a lot of people said some worked and others didn't. I received my converter and tried it on a few monitors, including a 7 inch 200$ Lilliput i have. None work but a HDMI 300$ Manhattan 8.9' monitor does work but its too big just to have it mounted to carry around. Ive been looking at the IKAN 7' HDMI monitors but haven't heard of anyone using them with the converter thats working. If any has a working 5' IKAN or any other brand that is working using the Blackmagic SDI to HDMI Converter , can you list what you guys have?

The BMCC's HD-SDI output is 1080p (progressive), not 1080psf or 1080i (interlaced). The monitor must be compatible with 1080p in the BMCC's video frame rates of 23.98 fps, 24 fps, 25 fps, 29.97 fps, and 30 fps. Refer to the manufacturer's specs for their monitor.

Most HD-SDI to HDMI converters typically only handle the HD-SDI to HDMI conversion, and don't convert progressive to PsF or interlaced. For use with the BMCC a converter must be compatible with a 1080p source and video frame rates of 23.98 fps, 24 fps, 25 fps, 29.97 fps, and 30 fps

Many monitors can handle a variety of sources, including 1080p @ 23.98 fps, 24 fps, 25 fps, 29.97 fps, and 30 fps. Look at the manufacturer's specs to see what they offer.

My SmallHD DP1x monitor arrived back home today, after a trip to the mothership for an upgrade from the DP1; it works just fine. So happy to have an outboard monitor again!
