Ursa Mini Mic Mount (NAB 2017)

PostFri May 05, 2017 10:49 am

So i wasn't at NAB, but Blackmagic showcased a Mic mount a long with all the other accesories for the Ursa Mini.

The text is:
"Blackmagic URSA Mini Mic Mount"
"Shock resistant shotgun mic mount tailored to your URSA Mini for multiple mounting options and positions. Makes high quality directional audio for studio, or run and gun shooting easy with your URSA Mini and URSA Mini Pro."

Price: $125

Is it suppose to sit on top of the top handle? Or on the 4 screw mounts if no top handle is installed? What other ways could it be used?

Also.. try to say Mini Mic Mount 5 times in row!

Ursa Mini Mic Mount (NAB 2017)

I hadn't noticed that BMD mic mount (BMM?). Nice it allows off-centre mounting. I bought a similar Rycote cold shoe mount before they had their off-axis mounting option. Good idea.

I did the same thing you did, Rick, based on your recommendation. It works, of course, but this could be a better solution.

Ursa Mini Mic Mount (NAB 2017)

PostFri May 05, 2017 8:23 pm

Sorry, Adam! I actually am thinking about the Rycote off-axis option combined with the Lyre mount which looks like it will age better than the elastic supports we have; I find the elastic can weaken in time.

Yes it can be mounted onto the top handle, onto any of the four 1/4 holes in the top of the camera and it also fits in the front two nicely under the handle of you don't have the Viewfinder mount attached to the top handle.

I'll get you some shipping timing details when we have a clearer idea.
Should be in the next couple of months.

It was showcased again at IBC 2017. But I wasn't there personally, so I can't say what they said at the booth.

But It can't be far off. I'm guessing it will be presented together with the SSD dock and the F-mount in an official annoncement.

Ursa Mini Mic Mount (NAB 2017)

The F mount is shipping and the SSD is expected to ship in less than four weeks.

The BMD Mic Mount is coming RSN. I haven’t seen how that BMMM shields the mic from vibration and other unwanted sounds. Maybe when the website is updated with these new products, all will be clear.

To be honest, since I got the Rycote Lyre mount - which is so much better and wear resistant - I would not buy a mount with elastic support.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Ah, thx ! I was looking for a mic mount to properly fit the UM handle, and I couldn't find one cheap enough to my taste. The Rycote is a start, I'm still need a more compact one, that's why the BM interests me.

Plus the Rycote Lyre mounts are quite simply superior to boom with! Right from day one.

Is like night and day difference vs thus rubber band mounds.

(my experience comes from with booming with each, dunno how much difference that there is when camera mounted, but guessing it is applicable)

You can bolt it onto the top handle, under the top handle if you don't use the Viewfinder adapter plate and you can also bolt it directly onto the top of the camera itself if you don't have the Shoulder Kit.

The two different arms shown in that photo give you the option of the flat or raised option.

Both are in the kit.
They are shipping and available now.

+1 to Rycote Lyre. I've got one mounted to a Wooden Camera handle that attaches to my Ursa Mini by quick release NATO clamp and rail. Takes only seconds to attach and remove. The drawback to all of BMD's Ursa Mini rigging accessories is the time and tools required to put them on and take them off. They are simply too slow and cumbersome when you need to pack up the camera into a small case for travel or transform it into a different configuration for any reason.
