Ursa-Mini user - Black spots in footage

PostWed May 24, 2017 8:16 pm

Hi all, first time posting here.

I'm a happy user of an Ursa Mini 4k for around a year and recently noticed that when I shoot with the iris close (f11+) 2 small black spots start to show and they get pretty sharp at f22 (happens on all lenses I've tried).

I've cleaned in the inside of the mount and glass thoroughly and it made no difference. Any clues as to what else it might be? Is it possible to get to the sensor itself or would I have to send it in to BM ?

Martin, might help if you post an image showing the 'sharp' dark spots at T22 and showing the same shot at T4/T5.6 or so if you can.

Fair point. Here you go at T5.6, T16 and T22
It's a small black dot on the top left of the image.

That's definitely dust within the camera. The question is whether it's stubbornly attached to the front of the glass, or inaccessibly behind the glass (either on the back side, or on the sensor).

Thanks, Martin. Now there's another good reason to shoot at T5.6 or T4! Seriously though if you have cleaned the outer surface of the sensor glass, it may be on the inner surface. Have you sent those pics to BMD Support for an opinion? Apparently the sensor glass can be removed.

I had a hair under my sensor glass, and never really shot stopped down enough to see it. Until I did. I had had my camera for nearly two years, and BMD support had my camera in and repaired in no time (took two trips, but they handled it.) I'm sure they will be able to handle it for you.

Thanks guys. I'll get in touch with BMD support, main problem is that we would probably have to ship it out of the country. Is there a way to remove the glass yourself?
