Unable to update firmware - Camera not seen - URSA Mini Pro

PostWed Jul 05, 2017 10:04 am

Hi

Trying to update firmare on the URSA Mini Pro.

Is anyone else having this problem? It is very frustrating and cannot figure out what is wrong.

I've tried more than one cable. Do you need to use a "very" specific cable? I've followed the instructions down to the T.

As far as the app is concerned, there is no camera connected. I'm on a Macbook Pro Retina 13, running Sierra.

Any help is very appreciated!

Thanks

Is it a Mac issue? Would trying this via a Windows machine solve the problem?

Anyone?

Thanks

George, it might help if you called BMD Support and they can monitor each action you're taking over the phone. First thing that comes to mind is the cable and I wonder if it's defective. Have you also plugged the USB connection into the port on the BM Viewfinder if you have that device. That might get help determine if the cable is functioning properly.

Hi

I also tried connecting the ViewFinder and same issue. I was also using a different cable for this, which leads me to think it's not a cable issue but an incompatibility issue between the equipment/app and Mac OS or Sierra specific.

I am running Sierra on my Mac and have no issues using the USB-c cable required for the camera, and the regular USB to usb-mini on the VA. It is a bit of a confusing process the first time. Once you download the firmware and install in on your Computer, close that setup window, THEN you open the App for the Camera or for the Video Assist in your Applications folder. That's where everything happens. When you open that, you will see your camera (or video assist) there. Hit Install. It's sort of a three step process from the download to the computer, to the App, to the camera. That little setup window that opens with the download is what's confusing, you can't install to the camera from there.

I'm on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.5 on a 2016 MacBook Pro. No issues connecting to the UMP with a USB-C cable or connecting to the viewfinder using a USB to Mini USB.

It would be handy if there were other options on how to do this like via SD Card.

Quick question. Is there such a thing as...?

USB 2 to USB C

and

USB 3 to USB C

If so, could this be the issue?

Thanks

I used a USB Type A to USB-C cable which works fine with MacBook Pro running Sierra. The Type A end should work with either USB 2 or 3. The MBP is USB-C, though, and I haven't tried it with USB 2.

I'll see if I can get hold of more cables to test.
