Shoulder Strap for Ursa Mini

PostFri Jul 28, 2017 1:18 am

I have a Ursa Mini Pro and am looking for a way to attach a shoulder strap to the camera. The strap I have has snap-hooks, so ideally something with D-rings. I'm assuming the 1/4"-20 are not durable enough to support the camera with a ENG lens. Any ideas?

I would like for BMD to think of a way to attach straps in the future camera. :-)

There's plenty of 3/8 screws on the camera.

You could attach a Blackrapid shoulder strap to one or two of them.

I Disagree.. Ideally you want the shoulder strap going from one side to the other of the camera.. that way it leans into your body.

Also. If you attach the shoulder kit, then all the 3/8" disappear. And while there are screw mounts on top, that is a handle.. You don't attach stuff to the handle. And even if you were to attach a strap on the top handle they are too close together.

Nice looking setup. Which B4 mount lens are you using there?

Nice!
I have a friend who might give me a good deal on a Fujinon HA16x6.3 BERM-M48
Any idea whether that's a decent one to use with B4 mount on Ursa Mini Pro?

I have a Fujinon A20x8.6BRM-SD which i’m pretty confident will work with UMP+B4 mount.

Also, a nice thick Porta Brace strap is the only way to go. Not sure how to rig it any prettier than what Stephen did.

I had a lens guy look at my lens before I bought it and he said it's MTF was well within HD spec and that many of the Fujinon AT2 series are.

Any of the Fujinon HA series lenses will work well. They are broadcast lenses designed for HD.

6.3mm is a good midrange wide focal length (between their standard 7.6mm and ultra wide 4.5mm) with a nice 16x range. In good condition they start at about US$3000. You'll probably need to get an adapter for the lens cable to connect to your URSA Mini - they're about $50-100.

I'd be very happy using that lens. I have a HA17x7.8 BERM-M48 - love it!

I just remembered, it's not the lens control cable you need an adaptor for (that will plug right into the camera), it's the zoom remote.

A zoom remote (SRD92) is REALLY useful when shooting events on a tripod:

You'll need an adaptor to plug it into a HA series lens. I think it's an 8-pin to 12-pin like this:

Now, about that shoulder strap....

It's too bad the BM handle doesn't have mount points for a ENG style camera strap. In the meantime, I've been using these straps on the handle to attach my strap to:

Speaking of ENG lenses, I bought this with my UMP and it's been working well. Not super sharp as you get into the long end of the lens zoom, but it's nice to have a shoulder-mount ENG style camera.
