External battery for BMCC and Metabones Speed Booster

PostFri Jul 28, 2017 4:37 pm

(I apologize in advance if these questions have been answered a hundred times before. I ran a few searches but wasn't able to find relevant, current answers.)

Hello everyone. I have a BMCC and a Metabones Speed Booster (EF to MFT for 2.5K BMCC) on the way and I'm trying to determine what options I have to power them both.

I'm pretty set on using a JuiceBox for the camera itself, but am looking for suggestions for the Speed Booster.

Thank you very much.

The new Indie Micro series battery offers:
98Wh Lithium-Ion V-Mount Battery
• Supports up to 12A Continuous Draw
• D-Tap and USB Accessory Outputs
• 4-LED Power Gauge
• Compact Form-Factor
• Charges Batteries via D-Tap Connector
• Supports 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz
• Outputs 16.2 VDC at 2.5A

So you get DTsp formthe camera connection and USB 5.0VDC out for the Speed Booster.

Thank you Denny Smith.

Are you aware of any non-V mount options?

Thank you very much Denny.

Are you aware of anything smaller/lighter/portable that would work to power the Speed Booster alone?

Maybe something like this USB battery might be better...its smaller than a V-mount and you could stick it on the rig somehow...velco, gaff, or some kind of clamp or...

Then just run the a short micro usb cable from it to the speedbooster.

Thank you Shane. I wrote to Metabones asking what is the amperage requirement for the Speed Booster but haven't heard back yet.

The SB power drain for the SB itself is very small, less than 1 amp. However, total MA requirement will depend in the lens being used, as this circuit must also power any focus by wire and Iris motors.
Some Canon lenses use more power than others.
