Would you keep the EOS 7D as a B-cam?

PostMon Mar 25, 2013 7:56 pm

Hi,

would you? I have to say that I like to take photos, but always use my Sony NEX5 for that purpose and while I'm just col.correcting my last film shot with the 7D, I guess - considering my talent - it wouldn't really match as a B-cam and I might never really need that extra wide focal length APS-C would give me (I always got along with the Tokina 11-16 on the Canon, now on the BMC with the Sigma 8-16 I won't loose that much angle actually)

Do I miss some thoughts here?

Thanks a lot for taking the time,
Thomas

What do your clients want? If you have people who like to rent you out with the 7D then you keep it. If not, then you get rid of it.
It is nice to have it though as it's a pretty small camera system all in all for tight spots, but it's really all about what your market is asking for.

Thanks Adrian,

I have no clients at all and maybe never will :-) I'm doing documentaries for the sake of it and have only done 5 so far and sent them to small festivals where they occasionally were screened. But one thing is for sure I'm continuing doing docs and will get better... I hope.

So with not earning money by filming but investing my private money in it you're right I should get rid of it and buy a field monitor instead :-)

If you already have the 7D, i'd keep it for a B-Cam, as it can do very high definition timelapses (that you can record in RAW. but if you don't want super HD raw timelapses and can't match between it and the Cinema Camera i'm sure you could fetch a decent price for it to get more gear for your bmcc

Thanks TZ,

as I don't intend to start timelapses I should sell it,as long as I get some money for it. Although I just took it in my hand and looked through the viewfinder and it feels better that staring on a small display at armlength, haha.

But if money starts pouring in one day, I might get a used 6D then.
