Have some cameras been discontinued?

PostMon Sep 11, 2017 6:11 pm

Hi, noticed a few older cameras seem to be kidding from the store. Have they been deleted?

I've looked at old threads but didn't find any mention.

Thanks

Have some cameras been discontinued?

PostMon Sep 11, 2017 8:40 pm

The original Pocket (2013), BMPCC, seems to wear the crown of longest reigning Cinema Camera. At one time it was also the best seller which speaks to its longevity. I suspect that reign will end within the next year. BMD hasn't said if the URSA Mini Pro has outsold it, but that's their current market leader.

Thanks. Last time I thought cameras dissapeared I found they were still there.

When did this happen? I'm surprised there
is only the mini pro left of sizable full cameas.

For whatever reason, BMD has buried all the variations of URSA Mini under the URSA Mini Pro section. If you click into that section and then on Tech Specs, you'll still see four models listed:

- URSA Mini Pro 4.6K
- URSA Mini 4.6K EF
- URSA Mini 4.6K PL
- URSA Mini 4K EF
URSA Mini 4K, URSA Broadcast G2

Thanks Earl. Yeah, last time it rearranged, but this time I could find the models. Still, looks like the older camera are gone, and there is some special on the 4k mini I saw out there.

Is funny, everytime I'm preparing to buy something it gets changed, cancelled, or turns out not good enough. Lol! You got to laugh at the absurdity, but I've been waiting for that long promised 4k OLED phone (supposed to be coming like 5 years ago) the 100mp 3 color layer Sony sensor supposed to be out years ago. Descent Apertus, Elphel, Axiom. New pocket, 50p 4k etc. 50p4k on camera phone.

Boy, a lot of clicks to get the price up on a mini 4k.

Anyways, if the mini does bow out, it will be sad to see it go. If only they had replaced the sensor with a 4k sensor with performance like the 4.6k, I would have bought one.

Analysis paralysis. It's a disease afflicting those who generally are well-informed and well above average in intelligence and can see both the Pros and Cons of any decision. It's victims can be found throughout history. Often the clear evidence uncovered by archeologists and anthropologists is the pileup of skeletons at any fork in the road. Recommended treatment to the curse of "six of one, half dozen of the other" syndrome often prescribed is "the flip of a coin." But the results of that are always remorse. I think it's better when you realize "life is passing you by" and any action you decide is right for you today. Tomorrow never comes, it's always a day away, so dive in and enjoy the thrill of today.

Only effective cure is to realize that life is short and then you die. [Not sure which is the good news or bad news.]

Well. Must be why everytime I make a decision (coin flip, dozens of them) the thing decided dissapeares. If only it was that simple. I'm thinking of flipping on one of those multi eyed mobile phones, over 5 years it would still work out cheaper than buying a pro. But seriously. Love to buy a BM.

Wayne, remember if one woman takes nine months to have a baby, nine women still can't have a baby in one month. The five years of mobile phone cameras full of whiz-bang features, still haven't matched the image quality of the five year old BMCC. I'm hoping you can manage the hurdles and join the club.
