Blackmagic Pocket battery + external battery issue.

PostThu Oct 12, 2017 12:10 am

Hello.

I've been using my Pocket camera with an external battery for about two months and it has been working without any problems. The other day when I was using it, it suddenly stopped charging from the external battery and it was fully charged (both external battery and standard battery). I've checked the cables from the external battery and they are working fine. I even ordered new ones.

I have now also an issue with the standard battery. The camera will go from fully charged to about 80% in just a few minutes and then turn off. I then turn it back on and it can only stay on for a few minutes before it turns off again. This pretty much makes the camera useless since I can only film with it for maybe a minute now if I'm lucky.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Try another battery.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.

Just a highflying piece of guesswork so don't take too much notice.

The power management circuit in the camera may have gone faulty.

The internal battery may have gone faulty and is pulling the external battery volatge down below the cut-off threshold.

Both issues may require the intervention of a camera doctor.

A question for others here --- Can the camera be safely operated with the internal battery removed?

Could it possibly be a bad DC connector on the camera? Many DC cables out there are big and bulky and can cause mechanical stress on the BMPCC connector.
