Angenieux new EZ 1/2 lens for URSA Mini Pro 4.6K

PostThu Nov 02, 2017 12:18 am

Angionex has released their new EZ1 lens with a swapable rear end so that it can be changed between super35 and full frame lens without changing my optical elements !,I think that the lens itself is a full frame lens and by windowing at the rear end by default it is fixed at super35 and by removing the window at the rear end it is converted into full frame, this is similar to Zeiss CP3 lens,! Any body knows much on the subject, please reply

The new EZ zooms have what Angenieux is calling IRO, which is Interchangeable Rear Optics. That means that the optics in one side does change.

Now, if you see the charts of the different combinations of rear mounts, you'll see that the full frame variations weigh less than the S35 versions. That would lead me to believe that the lens formula is actually FF and the S35 rear attachment is some sort of focal reducer made specifically for that lens.

THANKS,this is what I meant, since it is a full frame lens, its optical quality Will be only in par with CP3 lens!so optically it wouldn't be equal to other super35 like angenox optima or optima style or Zeiss ultra prime?or fuginon cabrio 20-120 or 19-90 super35 lens?!

The 20-120 image circle won't cover the um46 sensor, it doesn't cover uhd on the alexa mini.

There are many dimensions to “optical quality”. In addition, build quality is relevant to optical quality.

Whether or not the EZs were supposedly designed around one configuration or another does not really inform this. That said, it is however likely that compromises were made by Angenieux to achive the low price point for these lenses.

First, it is Angénieux, second, B&H has both EZ-1 and EZ-2 zoom lenses and kits in stock.

These are my favourite almost affordable PL Super 35 zooms. Please don’t tell me they’re no good at $10,500 a pop.

Rick, do you say this from experience or aspiration?

I am looking to get the elusive EZ2 s35. But B&H told me today that they have only the EZ1

Angineux lenses are very well regarded and loved. Some day I'll be able to afford one of these beasts. :)

Owen, they’re on my wishlist, so it’s aspiration at this point. The lenses I own are all SLR Magic APO primes. If the EZ1/EZ2 were available before I started collecting APO primes, I may have settled on them.

It is very close. It vignettes very slightly on the 4.6K sensor at full resolution but this is only visible when stopped down to around f11 or further at certain parts of the zoom range.

You can certainly get away with it. I use this lens on the 4.6K sensor quite a lot.
Also windowing down to 4K, 4K DCI or Ultra HD easily gets you full coverage with this lens which you can do in RAW or in ProRes.

I have the Fujinon 20-120 (sans servo) on my UMP. It is a very nice lens, but I wish it were faster and wider.

Vignetting is there when full frame and is pretty much gone at UHD. If I am shooting ProRes for HD delivery, though, I usually shoot non-windowed 2k 16:9 and crop in post to get some room for stabilizing. Doing this also mitigates the vignetting.

Now most of the giant camera makers has released full frame camera of 44 mm diagonal senser like Arri Alexa LF,sony Venice,Red,and panavion ,and full frame lens also released like Arri signature lens,Zeiss Cp3 lens, sigma cine primes ,so my doubt is can I be able to convert my Canon cn-e 14.5-60 mm t/2.6 lens to a FULL FRAME lens ? any adaptor for it ?,by doing so can I get the same angle of view of the full frame lens? HOW much stops of light I will loose? Affect picture quality? If anyone knows it please reply

The only way to increase the projected image circle of a lens is to put a tele-Converter on it, kind of opposite of a focal reducer/Speed Booster. A 1.5x will cost you 1-stop and a 2x will cost you two stops.
Unlike a Spoed Booster, this will also soften the image somewhat.
Cheers

If you want to cover 4K, better to use a UA Zoom?

UA is the prefix for Fujinon’s designation of higher quality zooms that can resolve 4K UHD as compared to the HA zooms that resolve 2K/HD.
