URSA mini pro and remote zoom control

PostFri Nov 03, 2017 1:17 pm

We are getting some URSA mini pro cameras and were wondering about a way to do remote zoom control. There will be times when one of the cameras will be mounted on a jib and we would like to be able to control the zoom, focus, and iris remotely. Everything I can find only mentions lanc control of focus and iris and there is no mention of zoom. A lot of these situations will be a live environment so we would need real time control of zoom and focus. Is there anything that could be mounted to zens to enable control of zoom or is there a way to use existing lanc controllers that do zoom and focus to control the camera?

You can only get LANC zoom control on power zoom Servo lenses. A regular Canon type zoom for still cameras does not have Servo zoom control, so no remote control. You can add a follow focus gear to the zoom ring and use in if the their party external zoom servos and Remotely control that. Another option are,th new Cine zoom Servo lenses. Also B4 broadcast zooms have Remote Servo zoom control, using a specific 8 or 12-pin remote controller.
Also LANC control of zoom and focus has some delay in it.
Cheers

Canon's hybrid compact-servo zoom lenses like the 18-80mm T4.4 and the 70-200mm T4.4 have servo zoom functionality through the EF mount. You could use Lanc or SDI Camera Control (from ATEM or Arduino) to drive zoom on these lenses.

PL zooms like the Fuji Cabrios (20-120mm, 19-90mm, 14-35mm, 85-300mm and 25-300mm) and Canon cine-servo zooms (17-120mm, 50-1000mm) have servos for remote zoom via the 12-pin connector but they are all upwards of $10,000 so depending on your budget you might need to rent if you want to use those. Any of these lenses with the servo attached you can have control of focus, iris and zoom from URSA Mini and Mini Pro.

So, just to clarify. Tim, are you saying that we can control zoom AND focus with a lanc controller like the "Manfrotto RC Pan Bar EX Remote Control for LANC Cameras" on the Canon CN-E 18-80 & 70-200mm Compact Servo lenses?

Also, if we wanted to have zoom on one pan bar and focus on another pan bar, could we use two lanc controllers at the same time since the URSA has two lanc ports? This would be so cool if this would work!!
