Kind of surprise?. Would have loved to have 4k, s35 and Global Shutter for the extra 1 grand....

https://twitter.com/danielogarcia1/stat ... 5606386691

That would be outstanding if we could pay and send our current ones in for an upgrade since its essentially the same body.

Either way..

Blackmagic is pretty sneaky... ;)

Well that's disappointing to those who already own one. Would have loved to have 4k for the extra 1 grand....

Not disappointing if you are shooting with it right now. Just sent in an order for one of each. Now about the wait list................

Definitely no disappointment, shooting and enjoying the image quality everyday. It's a $3000 cam not $30,000.
Anyway, you will probably only see the new BMCC delivered after NAB 2014.

I'm wondering what resolution the S16 sensor on the pocket camera will have? ...and what mounts the S16 and S35/4K cameras will have? How will the current model fit into the lineup / are they going to drop it after a while?

Yeah the pamphlets say the S35 4k camera will have global shutter and compressed RAW with an EF mount. Unbelievable. The s16 will ahve an active MFT mount and FULL HD recording.

Prores and DNX hd is also still an option. If BMD can bring production up to a international level, Canon and Sony are gonna be in deep water.

I don't know if anyone of us can say. The only company with a significant hold in the compressed RAW field is RED, and I have to say, it's impressive. Lot's of movies shot in 7:1, 5:1 or 3:1 compression. Visually lossless and saves TONS of space. Mega excited.

I might consider pre-ordering the 4K version and switching over once it's available, but the compressed RAW thing made me think... 2.5K lossless RAW vs. 4K compressed RAW. I'm also wondering what kind of file size would be expected per frame?

Nothing says I'm a newer and better model than sticking a really long and expensive lens on the front! It will be interesting to see if people will stop their pre-orders that haven't been filled for the original version to move over to wait even more for this new camera. BMD should offer a $1,000 upgrade trade in program for people who waited forever for the original camera, only to see it superseded rather quickly by the camera everyone really wants!

You could always shoot on your BMCC and sell it once your BMPC arrives. I know for some people the uncompressed RAW doesn't matter, but for me space and time saving matters. So even at 3:1 compression, it's going to be a big deal, especially with 4k image file sizes. The workflow is going to be different, and most of us will probably only work with 2k proxies and render to 4k.

But if the compressed CinemaDNG works out the way REDRAW does, then it'll be visually lossless. Meaning the lost data in compression won't be possible to detect with the human eye. Just won't be able to stretch as much in post. But that doesn't matter, because its 4k resolution and you have WAY more pixel information to work with. The 1D-C may still be 8bit 4k, but its ability in post is great thanks to resolution and log recording.

BMD just put the market on notice. Sh** just got real.

I'm really loving the new features, I just regret being the early adopter of the BMCC V1.

I really hope Blackmagic will do an upgrade program, It would be so great for those looking for the features that they missed out on, with the first one.

From the looks of it, its the same body. only thing that changed is the sensor and some other internals.

They mean it when they say, good things come to those who wait...

Wow! The market for high priced cameras is gone forever. This is a content and content only game now. If what you shoot is special, then you'll survive. 4k S35 for $3995 is amazing. I can really feel, Grants hate for the bureaucracy now. He's been planning this for some time. Hahahaha. I love this guy.

The new announcements are exciting! I'm really interested in the Pocket HD Raw.. BUT..
for those of us that have waiting for and now have a BMCC EF.. I hope BMD doesn't forget about us and firmware upgrades to make it more usable.. Or possibly even an exchange program for the production model?

The mods around here are about to get reeeeeeal busy!

Those owners/pre-orderers of the current camera that feel some kind of way, why is that? These wont be on the street for a while considering 1st generation MFT mount bmcc's are just now making their way to the beta testers.

I'm very excited about everything BMD is doing right now and the direction they're going with their camera line. 4K for 4K is finally here, despite RED's inability to follow through for the past several years. Out of the dust of the camera wars steps Blackmagic Design with such a cavalier approach to introducing game-changing gear, too. Can I buy stock? You guys are awesome. I'm going to buy one of each of the four known cameras and still have a receipt less expensive than buying a decent RED Scarlet package. Cheers!

I guess since frame rates aren't mentioned on the banners, its probably still going to be 30fps max. HFR would probably need two SSD recorders.

EDIT: Also, since global shutter is only mentioned for the S35/4K version, it's safe to say the S16/HD sensor on the Pocket version is using a rolling shutter.

Assuming this a different sensor, production times may be much quicker than last time. If not, BMD's reputation as a manufacturer will take another hit since they didn't learn lessons from V1.

I hope there's some kind of upgrade path as well. If the dynamic range and colour science are as good (or better) than V1, i'm in. Would rather not go through the process of trying to sell my one.

From what I'm hearing we are looking at 2-5 months Minimum, Plus what is "4K Ready"? a third party recorder? Think about it???
But just having the S35 sensor is worth the extra $1000. IMO.

Love this post Ted. Its absolutely true. Its like your making mad love to the hottest lover you have ever had, and you happen to look out your window at that sublime moment, and spot a new hot possibility and everything suddenly deflates...

Camera manufacturers provide a product. They don't provide you with a guarantee against technical obsolescence. When you purchase something, you are purchasing what comes in the box, not what the manufacturer is going to produce next year. When you laid down your $3K for the current model, you knew new things would be coming, but you were happy because Black Magic was doing what Red promised 5 years ago. And nothing has changed with the camera that you got, or will be getting based on your order.

Besides that, how many people complaining, will ever really do anything real in 4 K ? How many in even 2.5 K.

since we are dealing with bread crumbs of info... would it be wrong to assume that with the larger sensor, the EF mount would use more of the glass than the 2.5k BMCC?

With compressed CinemaDNG at 4k, it should be twice the equivalent of CinemaDNG RAW Uncompressed,
I.E a 480GB drive holds (Approximately)56min of raw, the same drive should hold 1hr and40+min of compressed CinemaDNG RAW depending on the compression algorithms.

I think?
The question we need to ask is???...Will we still have 13 stops?

Is it just me or is the lens mount protruding less on the 4K BMPC than on the current BMCC?

Besides that, how many people complaining, will ever really do anything real in 4 K ? How many in even 2.5 K.

Alot of folks already saying pro-res is more than enough for them on the current camera! With raw being certainly more than they can handle.

Oh, and about those pesky (& pricey) ssd's causing issues with the current camea

Depends on what work you do, for heavy CC or keying of any sort prores and Avid DnxHD are not sufficient enough. I plan to shoot in these formats for non vfx shots and as compressed for others to save space where I can.

Actually and theoretically it should be protruding less since it's an s35 sensor. :ugeek:

In a nut shell the diameter should be much larger to fit the s35 sensor, and the depth about 1 half of the EF mount.

just my visual brain fart.

It should be the same focal plane regardless of crop , so the same depth.
