Matte Box

PostTue Dec 26, 2017 9:57 pm

What are you using for a matte box? I'm rigging a BM Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K for narrative work going from shoulder to tripod and occasional dolly. I have the BM shoulder kit w 6" rails and a follow focus on it now. I am using the Rokinon DS lenses (all 77mm) B&H has a great special on the Redrock but I was put off by the comments on weight and size...

Have a look at the Brighttangerine Misfit Atom - it is very lightweight.

I am using it and am happy.

Ric, I also recommend the Bright Tangerine Misfit Atom. When you swing the camera up on your shoulder, you’re really not aware of any increased weight. The 4mm filters you put in it probably weigh more than the matte box. You can check out that box and others plus accessories on their website.

I'm with Rob and Rick! The Misfit Atom has made all the difference. Lightweight. Elegant and practical design. Using it wth my UM46 lightens the load considerably.

Got a question for the Misfit Atom Owner's Club, can't find an answer anywhere:
Can you rotate any of the filters? What do you do when you want to use a CPL or a SE ND?

The basic Atom doesn’t allow for a rotating stage although it might be possible as an accessory. I haven’t been on the BT site in ages.

Filter rotation is not possible, unfortunately. That's the only caveat.
