Blackmagic Cinema Camera

PostThu Sep 06, 2012 1:24 pm

Blackmagic Design has been overwhelmed by the fantastic response from the very first few customers that have received their cameras. Naturally the question on everyone’s lips is when is more stock shipping? As you can understand the Cinema Camera is a highly advanced piece of equipment and therefore requires only the highest level of quality components. At this time certain components are coming into our factory slower than expected and as a result the manufacturing of units has slowed. We ask that you please be patient with us as we are doing our best to get more stock flowing within the next few weeks. In the meantime we are pleased to announce that our engineering team has not been resting and we have more features and updates coming to the next free firmware update.

Thank you for your patience. We will be communicating more detailed updates on shipping when that information is available.

Can you say how many customers have received their cameras? Can you put a number on "very few" please?

I think it's great that Blackmagic is continuously working on the camera's firmware so fervently and is not leaving the 1.0 to get stale in the eyes of the customers. While I'm personally looking forward to just using the camera, the potential minor improvements in the firmware (and some suggested major ones) are icing on the proverbial cake. There are some trivial things which, when added, will make it that much better.

And thanks to Blackmagic for creating this little beast in the first place.

Would love to give dates and a more exact timeline, but right now we can't until we get info on when that slow to arrive component will arrive in bulk. When we know that, we will communicate when we will be shipping in volume right away.

That's a pity but what can you do?

So long as there are SOME cameras around in Melbourne by mid november for this film of mine, I'm happy.

Thank you for the update! Though I noticed you didn't mention anything about the camera handles? I assume those are being mass produced because of needing only basic materials for them or are they getting produced at a slow rate as well?

The BMCC's optional handles, like the camera's case itself, are machined from Unobtainium, and thus are in equally short supply. ;-)

Thank you for the frank update. When you push the envelope it's want to push back, so no loss of faith on my part.

And you did in fact ship when you said you would +- a month, which is impressive.
