ProRes, 422 4K To Resolve 10

Will Resolve 10 take the ProRes 422 4K files from the new 4K production camera? If so, to what level could it be manipulated, considering they won't have DNG for a while after its release?

Resolve will indeed work with any flavour of prores you care to put in it.

ProRes is amazing at 10bit 4:2:2. I usually shoot getting it somewhere near what I want the final image to look like, as most people do (aside from exposure - I'm talking color and ratios). I've done stuff with a blue-ish background and a warmer skin tone (that Hollywood Blockbuster look) and I didnt get the right shade of blue on set. So in Resolve, with the ProRes, I was able to shift it to the right shade of blue and shift the skin tones a little bit to get them looking just right.

ProRes is amazing. Raw is a bit better, but I wouldn't be embarrassed or bummed when shooting ProRes. You'll be able to push it around just fine.

Just to clarify, the free Lite version of Resolve is limited to 1080p output (export).

The full version of Resolve that comes with the BMCC & BMPC-4K cameras can export 4K and more.

Just for tha last bit of clarity, Lite versions will ingest all the resolutions that full versions will but will only allow 1080p or smaller timelines and output. The distinction is an important one for many who do not have a full version (though since the BMPC has a full version shipped with it it shouldn't matter to users of it that much.

Thanks guys. I have a three year old Mac Tower 2x2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 6 gigs of memory. Will this be enough to color correct and edit in 2K? I plan to acquire in 4K bump it down to 2K and even use some HD Stock footage unless I can find some affordable 2K stock footage.. Peace...

A lot depends upon the graphics cards you have or will acquire. Look on the BMD Support pages for the recommended configurations for Resolve and Resolve Lite. Read and weep! No, seriously, it will give you something to think about and what you need to match what you want to do. If you were doing all your post work in FCPX, you may be fine. If you want to use Resolve, you may need more GPU power. In either situation, you should benefit if you use 16 GB memory or at least 12 GB. Current generation memory is rather inexpensive but the cost goes up for older machines. There will be an update to the Mac Pro " later in 2013" if you want to wait but the current generation iMac likely outperforms your Mac Pro.

how many stops of dynamic range we get out when in ProRes 422 4k ?

(on the BMCC its 10 stops vs 13 when in RAW mode)

can you upgrade from 9 to 10 ala a"pple NLE" style or are you forced to buy 10 for the full price?

If I don't intend on purchasing the 4k version (have ef BMCC) do I really need 10?

If you have a license dongle for Resolve it will enable you to use resolve 8, 9 and 10 when it comes out, unless there is a major change in business model form resolve this will likely be the case for 11, 12, 13 etc.
