Request: 2880x1620 AND 4K 120fps modes on UMP.

This has been mentioned before.

I believe that 2880x1620 being 1.5x HD and the same resolution as Alexa Open Gate is good enough reason to offer it as a recording option. A nice compromise in file size and quality between HD and 4K, and enough resolution to do a nice downsample to 1080p or even do better stabilization or vfx work.

And on top of that offering either 1620p, or UHD in 120fps would be nice too even if it's only available as dual-card raw and in short bursts because it will drastically improve the quality over the currently available 120fps, and make it one of the top 120fps cameras on the market due to the low compression.

The Alexa open gate format is mainly used for anamorphic, and the UMP already has a Cinemascope option to cover that need. It's an oddball format otherwise, though I suppose you could use it for reframing.

I doubt that the UMP would be able to handle the throughput of 4K at 120fps. The data rate for that is... well, large -- five times the data rate for 24fps, specifically. it might sound easy, but that's huge load for system bandwidth.

YES! Id like to see that too! Anything over fullHD with 120fps

You might have to wait for the sequel. :)

I don't know much about data rate, but the bigger Ursa can handle 4k 120fps no problems, so I don't think a newer camera should have any problems with the data rate from the dual c-fast output. The only things I could imagine are overheating issues or processing power, both of which I have no idea so I'm not going to speculate.

I do believe 2880x1620 is the perfect compromise because it's 150% the size of FHD and is still would provide a noticeable jump in image quality. I don't think 240fps is necessary but any larger resolutions at 120 would make it more of a non-compromised slow motion.

Count me in. Except on the Mini 4.6k. Most of my work is nature based so any higher res 120fps would be amazing. The loss of quality using cropped 2k cropped 120fps just doesn't cut it for me. The two things that I love about REDs are the high frame rate options and the pre-record function. If those two things were an option on BM I would be one happy guy!

This has been discussed before and I wish someone from BM would just write back and say whether or not it's even a possibility.

Well its your lucky day, because that is actually possible.

Both 2K 16:9, 2K DCI and HD is avaliable in 120fps. :) So two options above FullHD is possible ;)

I would much rather see a 2304x1296 resolution and make it "Golden" like on the Kinefinity so we get a supersampled image (i think thats what they are doing) that has more detail and more dynamic range.

I would love to have the full sensor over HD at 120fps.

It's definitely possible to do over 2K at 120fps. I know it is, because the camera is not being pushed to it's limit at 1080p. Whether it can 4K 120fps or 150fps in FHD like the URSA can do? Maybe not, but there's definitely some resolution over HD that can be added.

It might not be possible just because there's bandwidth available downstream. There might be limitations that no one but BMD's engineers would know of that prevent the UMP from exceeding 120fps at any resolution... it could be something as simple as the upper limit of a clock generator, or the design of the readout circuitry.

It's still a bargain at twice the price, though.

It could possibly be something to do with circuitry or processing power but I doubt it's bandwith. Remember the camera can do 4.6k raw at 60fps, which is 1026 MB/s split over dual C-fast. I'm almost certain that there are several options between 4K and FHD that are similar bandwith at 120fps. Maybe they won't add 2880x1620 because they feel there are already enough resolution choices and even though it might be a good choice for slow motion it means another resolution option.

Would be great, but most of the other large sensor cameras, like the EVA1, all window down at 120fps, as the full size S35 sensors being used do not have a fast enough read out time. Cropung the sensor down in a window reduces the number of photosites, and increases the sensor read out time.
