Mosaic Engineering OLPF

I placed an order for the Mosaic OLPF before Christmas last year (2017) and received an email confirming my order. I have not heard anything since. Phone calls and emails requesting more info about possible delivery dates have gone unanswered. Anybody heard anything about this product or Mosaic's general health & welfare?

I also pre-ordered, and I'm also starting to wonder about this.
Actually I ordered it mostly as it seems to solve the UM46K IR issues once and for all.

I ordered Mosaic OLPF 2 for BMMCC in Summer and next wait about 3 months before it was shipped. But that time delays where explained by some technical problems in components supply. I send them emails few times but communication was very very slow.
All that time their UM4/6K filter was available in their store but people who contacted Mosaic talk that in reality that filter wasn't ready yet.
If they don't respond try to email again in few weeks.

Often supply delays and third-party contractors relate to these delays rather than any apparent lack of effort on the part of your manufacturer. Mosaic may prefer not to identify the things that are out of their control. Small manufacturers have a very hard time managing their project timelines. Not likely an issue when you become a a Canon or Sony but that’s one of the costs of innovation for small entrepreneurs. We might prefer that products not be announced until they’re ready to ship, but the manufacturer needs to announce ahead of that to gauge the volumes they produce.

I really am not interested in the issues or reasons why the filter is delayed. I just think that if one has invested $500 in the first run of this product, the courtesy of a reply would be appreciated. Is that asking too much?

...same here. I've place an order on 30 April 2017 for URSA MINI 4,6. Several e-mails for requesting updates on the status of the order, a couple of answers with vague types of excuses but at today nothing. A strange way of doing business...

Ric, I agree with what you’re saying. To me the vendor needs to responds to status queries when they have no expectations of fulfilling an order in a timely manner.

I bought a filter for the micro cinema camera from Mosaic in 2017 with a really fast delivery time of a few days. I emailed him ahead of ordering and waited until he confirmed the filter was in stock. It seems like a one to two man operation on the administration side so it’s best to contact them ahead of ordering.

Sage advice, Ryan. With all the online stores where it’s so easy to click a few buttons to order something, we tend to forget in most companies not called Amazon, there is a human handling the sales and possibly another human handling the stock. I always have talked to the human who can be very helpful and attentive to the equipment order when you place it. Always, whether it’s a lowly eye cushion or the camera itself. Sales like to talk to you at every gear vendor I’ve considered.

How else would you learn that the Rokinon 16mm T2.2 APS-C lens covers Super 35 while the 10mm does not (before you buy)?

Has anyone heard anything on this product? I have requested a refund today, as it has been about a year and I have not heard anything about the order.

They seem to have pretty much disappeared.
But there is Rawlite from Holland, which I can wholeheartedly recommend. I tested it on the UM46P.

I was just looking into both Mosaic Engineering and Rawlite for the OLPF.

Is it possible to fit the Rawlite OLPF on the Ursa Mini 4.6K EF (non-Pro model)?

No idea, but please contact them. Other than Mosiac they tend to react quite soon!

I contacted Rawlite and Hans replied very quickly.

For anybody else who's interested, Rawlite do offer their UMP OLPF for the non-Pro Ursa Mini models, and they come with a shim and tools for installation. Rawlite are currently working on a redesign of their website, so this information isn't currently listed. But if you email them they can process the order and payment via PayPal. The price is the same as for the UMP version - USD$425.00 + USD$50.00 for shipping outside of Europe.

Then make your own one and tell us how much time went into it and how much the production will cost for a low volume product

Coop with BMD would bring less pricing and more happy users.
Factory absence of an olpf on these cameras is a deal breaker for me.

Well, then buy a camera with an OLPF. But if it should be a Sony, don't buy anything but the Venice, the others have lousy OLPFs. Arri and Red are good, though, and Red's OLPFs are cheap, around 295,- US only.

Come on, for the money I could hire a private optician and at the end I would still have money for a e.g. BMMCC.

There is no justification for the money demanded. It's outrageously expensive, And yes, there is a much cheaper alternative:

You buy half a camera.
without OLPF
without a good mic.
without good battery
etc.
paid e.g. 1000$

And if you buy all that's missing, exaggerate said: $3,000
After all, much less than buying a RED or Arri.

Finally got someone on the phone at Mosaic and they had actually refunded my Paypal payment when they could't deliver in a timely fashion. They just neglected to notify me. Shooting with my UMP4.6K and PCC4k happily without an OLPF and both look fine.

With 4K or more moiré is less critical than with HD, only really good lenses resolve so well that it becomes visible. Some of mine did until I got the filter.

Thanks, just trying to get better bang from some oldgen BMD cameras i already using.
Not a Sony user either. Waiting for some new advanced camera iterations from BMD
with an olpf as an option.

Uli is totally right!

But nowadays high resolving power is readily available in lenses so in studio shoots and closed down moiré can be a real problem even with the 4.6K in my experience...an OLPF is a must for me imho...

Just to clarify, Uli - you're talking about the Rawlite OLPF? You got one for your UMP and it was worth it?

Yes, absolutely. I saw moiré with my Zeiss lenses and the Sigma 18-35mm too. Other than claimed by some, BRaw didn't cure it.

This is BRaw at the highest quality without OLPF:

And this is an uncompressed DNG with the OLPF:
