Lens/Remote Control Compatability

PostSun Apr 14, 2013 5:25 pm

Hey folks,

I was wondering what the compatibility requirements were between lenses and.

I was thinking of buying the Bebob Zoom Controller and the Rokinon Cine EF-Mount lenses for use with the new 4k BMCC model. Could I pull focus and change iris from the remote using that combination?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The Rokinon/Samyang lens is a dumb lens meaning no electronics at all even on the EF mount. So even the iris is manual from the lens not even the camera.

The Bebob stuff is designed for broadcast lenses really (fujinon/canon etc) found on more traditional shoulder type cameras.

So in answer to your question no there is no real combination of having remote iris/zoom/focus without getting a dedicated lens control system from say Preston Cinema Systems, or many of the other FIZ makers. These alone would cost more than the 4K camera!

Maybe there will be a way of controling the focus/iris on all electronic EF lenses using a varizoom or manfrotto lanc control but not on dumb lenses.
