Ursa Mini 4.6k PL . Battery recommendations 2018

PostMon Apr 02, 2018 8:01 am

Hello to all on this excellent info forum.

I have just purchased a Ursa Mini 4.6k PL .
I am now seeking a V mount battery recommendations for 2018.

I use the camera for indie film, So no long extended recording. E.g. live events etc. Although the camera and monitor will be on standby , on / off periods of around 2-4 hours.

I require X2 batteries + charger.

Budget £ 300- £500.

I intend to run the following kit off the V mount battery.

1. Ursa mini 4 .6.k.pl.

2. Seetech/ feelworld 7" fh7. Monitor. ( Dtap) ( I am not sure if this unit can run of a dtap? It does come with its own battery mount?

3. CCtech. Cfast- SSD mount.

Cheers to all for any advice.

Geoff.

I went with Cinegears 270WH and their dual charger. It uses the modern efficient cell technology. Of course I can’t fly with that size.

I think I’m the last year they call it 250WH but I suspect it’s the same. Haven’t had any issues. If you want to extend the life of the cells, be sure and disconnect the battery from the camera after a shoot so it will hold its charge ‘forever.’ If you leave the battery on the camera, it does slowly lose charge. I top up the charge the night before a shoot.

You can leave the battery on the charger and it will trickle charge until it hits maximum charge, but I feel safer with it disconnected from everything after a shoot.

I use Rolux 95Wh & 130Wh batteries (plus a dual charger) with my UM4.6k PL.

Very happy with their performance.

I'm really liking the Core SWX 98Wh Batteries. They give the exact percentage battery information to the URSA Mini so it is perfect for knowing how much life is left. There are also 150Wh batteries, but those are more expensive.

You can get it one battery for $337 from B&H. However, there is a good deal on 2 Core SWX 98Wh batteries and the dual vertical charger for $829.95 from B&H. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... y_kit.html

Excellent info , thank you for sharing.
I didn't consider the limit in regards to battery restrictions. I am in England and will fly to the US & Europe, I will research this further.
Thank you again.

The US TSA limit is up to 100WH and that applies to Canada. Always best to verify with UK and EU standards but lots of folks here know the answer!

If I was investing in a battery system today, I’d go with PAG Link stackable setup as it’s the best of all options — individually small and light (and under airline limits) but you can stack them if you need longer run time (or counterbalance weight against a heavy lens):
https://www.paguk.com/landing/PAGlink

Cinegears 250Wh allow an amazingly long run time, but they are heavy and you can’t fly with them.

I have a bunch of the Switronix 98Wh, but I regret buying them. They don’t run nearly as long as other 98Wh batteries for some unknown reason, and they don’t have the features of the PAG Link.

Cheers all for the Battery Travel restrictions advice and for the other battery suggestions.

I'm leaning towards the Rolux product at this point.

Regards to all.
Thanks again.

Those PAGs look awesome, but so do the Hawk-Woods Minis. With the dual plate you can fit two and hot swap. The 98Wh doesn't have a D-tap (too small) but the dual plate does.

Yes, I saw that they have released those new Hawk Woods. My only hesitation would be how far they stick out. With the PAG when running a single battery, it's looks more compact.
However, it's hard to tell from photos. I'm looking forward to checking them out at NAB.

Hello Tristan.

May I ask. What kind of power usage do you get from the 95wh / 130wh Roluxes?
Especially as I have the same camera "BM Ursa mini 4.6k PL" as yourself?
p.s. do you run anything off the Dtap? Also.

I use the Patona 95 Wh batteries and get about two hours without additional accessories from our UM46P.

Nice thing it has an USB port to supply additional devices.

No problem flying with it from Germany, but you need to take it into hand luggage.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thank you for the suggestion and information Uli , I will certainly take a closer look at the German Patona batteries.

Hey,

I've bought CONST batteries + dual charger. Many batteries look identical, just the stickers are different. Rick's Cinegears look identical in form factor to CONST so I am thinking that someone produces these batteries and different companies brand them. Aside from that, 3 batteries: 1x100Wh and 2x130Wh + charger for 2 batteries at the same time (it also has a switch to use the camera with it) came around 800 euro. Decent price, I'm happy with the batteries and they last for a full day. I do start with the 100Wh and put it in the charger once it's out.
Btw this is for UMP but I don't think there is much of a difference.

Yes Vess I am sure you are correct regarding the manufacturer of these batteries, lets face it most are made in China, it's just the qaulity control that concerns me in buying e .g. cheaper batteries direct from China. " Soonwell" make a few V mount batteries. Excellent prices, but as mentioned I'm concerned for the consistency of these?. I will check out the CONST batteries you mentioned.
Cheers.

I'm sure those "Patona" batteries are not made in Germany, but in China too and branded here.
Just seems that their importer is imposing good QC, since they are working quite reliably for us.

I get about 2 hours from the 95Wh, and 2.5hours from the 130Wh. The only thing I power from the D-Tap is occasionally an LED light.
