Stills from Sci Fi Short | Ursa Mini 4.6k & Resolve

PostMon Apr 09, 2018 6:57 pm

Just wanted to share some stills from a sci-fi short I shot last summer. It was a small production and I should be finishing it up soon. I used the Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6k and graded the footage in Resolve.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Justin, I don’t see any images. They have a broken image icon in the message.

Thanks. Looks lovely. Hope it suits the story as those images certainly aren’t threatening. Always good to get the audience feeling good and safe, but later things go south.

Image 8 might be helped with a gold bounce getting some more light in the shadows if you have that option. If not open the aperture a little. The camera has lots of dynamic range, it it might be good to see his face somewhat more easily if that works for the story. At some point strong shadows may be more appropriate when the mood changes. If you’ve actually shot the scene, you might grade it to achieve the same result.

The story is a little lighter on the sci fi end more the E.T. route, but definitely great feedback. For image 8 that's good to know, theres still detail in the faces which I can bring out in the RAW file. Also due to time constraints and a tiny crew we rarely controlled the light, 95% of the shots are just natural uncontrolled light.
