Auto Exposure - Really?

PostWed Apr 11, 2018 2:52 pm

I was surprised to see an Auto Shutter setting in one of the UIs for the new Pocket 4K. Since these are cinema cameras, I'd just assumed everything was manual: that was certainly the case when I used the first Pocket cam, years ago.

Digging into a user guide, I see that a number of auto exposure options exist for, say, the Micro.

Are these true auto exposure options: do they automatically ride the exposure over the course of a long recording? Or is it a momentary thing, like the old IRIS button on the first Pocket?

Thanks.

It has the same OS as the Ursa Mini/Pro, so I would say from the interviews, it is a Push for momentary iris setting, not continuous auto exposure as the Micro cameras have. As for Auto Shutter, look in the Ursa Mini manual to see if has any info.

It’s off by default and if you don’t want to use it, just leave it disabled. The one shot auto iris button is still there if you need it.
