Hi there,

would you mind helping me and judge the sharpness/noise within the comparison on vimeo, as I'm in Perth right now, just got my BMC yesterday and don't have any HD-capable monitor here.

So I'd appreciate if you could download the file and tell me if there is any issue with the BMC's sharpness, I really can't judge on the equipment I have here, although it looks WAY better than the 7D stuff.

BMC is Prores and videomode, as here is no way of doing cc on a good calibrated monitor.
Ah, and WB not top notch as well, sorry for that! All ISO 800 on BMC, ISO 160 on 7D. No tripod on the 7D, sorry. And I just realized I was a bit unfair towards the 7D in using approx. the same apertures, as due to the bigger sensor of the 7D there's a shallower depth of field, but now it's too late (raining outside now and internet is slow as hell).

There might not be much noise in there, but some indoor shots I did during daytime with ISO 800
seemed really bad, some indoor nightshots quite good compared to that.
Am I missing something? (hope I did ETTR)
Can do more tests tomorrow if anyone is willing to assist in judging the noise. Or is the noise always there anyway as of the native ISO? I just want to know, there's no problem doing NR for me afterwards.

Thanks a lot!

You ask people to "download" your video, which I would prefer to do to answer your questions rather than watching it compressed on Vimeo. However, there is no download option.

I see no problem with noise in the BMCC footage in this comparison. But, again, I wouldn't expect to see subtle differences at Vimeo's level of compression and scaling.

BMC seems super fine and 7D bad as expected.

In doors you have to see if light is sufficient. If not then you get grainy feel.

All seems as expected.

As has already been said, comparing within Vimeo is a bit pointless but..

..you are getting a bit mixed up between detail and sharpness.

The image of the BMCC has a lot more detail than the 7D whilst not being much sharper (when viewed within Vimeo)

More detail = more perceived sharpness.

Plus with ProRes footage you can sharpen to taste without incurring much of the issues you would have when sharpening 7D footage in post.

7D seems to mee always soft and bad no matter what you do. It just skips lines.

This is why i never got one to myself.

FYI.. I just finished editing a Mini-Doc shot mainly on my BMCC.. but there were some shots from a GH3 from a CineStar8 mixed in and the BMCC is way sharper.
