Brian, there are quite a variety of competing manufacturers of cards (the silicon) and probably a greater number of vendors (the brand), but there are very few alternatives when it comes to the internal data managers (the firmware). When people offer a bespoke card, they tend to cost more albeit they’re arguably more reliable.
I just have my doubts BMD would be able to lower the CFast Card costs compared to the market trends given they don’t have a foundry.
I suspect there may be a similar logic at play with regard to bespoke prime lenses. At one time we hoped BMD would offer lenses. They’ve left it to the market. There are lenses for every budget and a lot of competitors so it’s quite difficult to know where to aim your arrow. RED tried.
