USB-C hard Drive recording on Ursa Mini Pro

PostMon Apr 30, 2018 8:42 pm

Any chance a future firmware update will allow the new Cinema 4K capability to record to external USB-C on the Ursa Mini pro also?

No. It's hardware is built for firmware updates only.

Get the BM SSD recorder and put the drives into a cheap enclosure and you are set.

Or build something like this:

Yeah but that has the following issues

- nabs the SDI port
- is 6G SDI so no 60fps for 4K
- Cannot record the full native sensor
- adds weight and length to the camera

It's a shame, I imagined it wouldn't be possible but was hoping

Some things do not change, with an BetaCam ENG Camera we only had 15 and 30 min types, SE we carried a bunch of tapes. So at least yiu can get longer recording times than 30 min on CFast cards, which re much smaller and easier to carry around. ;)
Cheers

Who said that USB-C can carry 60 fps full frame uncompressed RAW? I don't think so.

BTW, our 'hacked' solution doesn't block the SDI port if you use an angular USB connection or an USB-converter on the D-Tap in the lower left. It adds very little weight too.
