Problem with viewfinder

PostWed May 30, 2018 2:20 pm

Hi all,

I recently bought a new URSA Mini Pro with its viewfinder.

I just turned it on for the first time and even if I can view my image on the LCD screen, the viewfinder doesn't pick it up.

I can only see a blue screen through the viewfinder.

I have checked for updates, both the cam and viewfinder are updated.

Has that happened to anyone?

Any clue of what to do?

Thank you very much,

Tom

Check your camera setup menus, see the camera manual for how to set the camera up for the EVF, it is not plug and play. ;)

The thing is the manual says it is pretty much plug and play. Nothing about setting up anything for it to work... :(

Just had this happen to my viewfinder. Had to send it in for repair. I believe it was a faulty logic board.

Have you checked your Front SDI output resolution isn't set to 1080i?

The viewfinder only works with progressive signal input.

Just picked up my new URSA MINI PRO G2 with viewfinder today, same problem - blue screen in the viewfinder.
Totally unusable!
Have checked & tried everything mentioned in these posts, nothing works.
So much for quality control from Blackmagic, pretty pissed off basically, 1st day and its stuffed.
Very worried about using this professionally!

This is a pretty thin thread and the OP never responded about what if any resolution came about. We understand that this is unacceptable behaviour.

Have you contacted BMD Support for guidance on isolating the problem or an RMA?

The EVF displays blue when it is not getting a signal it can use.
Hooking it up to the rear SDI out, with 4K out set or 1080i set at either SDI out will cause this. I have a feeling both cases are user error, and not the camera. I made the same mistake on my Ursa Broadcast Camera the first time I connected the BMD EVF.

One way to see, is first check output resolution setting for both SDI outputs, when shooting UHD or 4K, make sure you are using the front SDI out, which is normally set to HD output when recording UHD/4K and make sure you do not have 1080i set, it needs to be set at 1080p. The EVF only accepts a HD, 1080p signal, which limits how you can use it.

Definitely set Front SDI output to 1080p still get the BLUE screen with EVF, its also the same on the rear SDI
Like I said in an earlier post, Blackmagic quality control needs a lot of improvement...this was a brand new EVF
and straight out of the box it doesn't work!
I'm in Sydney & had to wait 4 weeks to get this EVF, very dissapointed

I purchased the EVF for my Ursa mini pro and maybe used it 20 times on the camera. Took it off to do some Steadicam work. Put it back on a few months later and now it only reads a black screen. Of course now it it out of warranty by about 2 months. BM said they would try to work with me but, I gotta say, a $1,500 items should never break on its own, and if it does, it should be replaced for free.
