EF to PL

PostMon Jun 04, 2018 9:18 pm

Hi everybody again!
I'm looking forward to work with PL lenses, hope to get the Atlas Orion some dar soon. But my only concern is being able to change EF to PL. I was reading the manual, but reading it I don't find as much información than in a video and makes me feel insecure.
The only video that I found in youtube is this one:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iZQxQ9U8JmA
It is ok, but too fast for my taste. Do you know any video where it is explained
In a more slow and detailed way? I think I could probably live with it and try it, but It is my first try and don't want screw it.
I'm not in a hurry and wan to be very secure before, so any help will be very welcome!
Thanks a lot

Read the manual carefully a few times and post what you don’t find clear. Everything is in there but it might not make sense. You’ll be fine if you have the right tools and follow the steps carefully.

Rick
I was reading again, and looks easy.....it is all there, you were right, but, what about the 0.45Nm maximum torque? How do I know it? The best method seems screw it gently, no too strong. I miss a video step by step hehehe

I use the Wera 7440 model I believe. Might be hard to find but Onetip in the USA has it. I bought my tiny bits in a hobby shop as hardware stores seemed to have huge torque drives and bits to manage an 18 wheeler but not tiny bits for cameras.

Aha!
So the torque value is within the Wera 7400 itself. Ok, that' why I didn't know how to figure out.
So without this tool you are not able to do it acurately.
Than is for the Info Rick

Yes, the Wera is a torque driver and shows the torque value when tightening the screws. This way all the screws are evenly set, and the PL mount sets squarely on the camera.

I bought a Sealy Torque screwdriver. I'm very happy with it.

The 7740 is rated for 0,3-1,2 Nm

EF to PL

Fran, the Wera is easily adjustable to any strength needed as indicated by markings. Be sure you look at the right set of markings as there are different markings on each of the sides of the sleeve.

As for anamorphic lenses or adapters, there are threads here already, but things change over time and you might post your own thread with your specific requirements.

Hi Rick
I got the Wera right now with me, as you said there are two tipes of marks, one goes
Nm 0.3, 0.4, 0.5.... and the other (and what I think is the right one for this ) to use is one that goes
Nm 0.35, 0.45, 0.55......is it ok?
I hope to rent some day the Atlas Orion for some work, buy any anamorphics right now is out of my range.
But the PL opens a new plethora of options to look for, even buy. Set of Tokina cine, SLR APO, Zeiss....we will see!

Very good, Fran. Yes, you dial in the 0.45 Nm line and you’re good to go. You loosen and tighten screws in the order recommended in the manual. It’s a partial unscrewing and screwing in. In other words you don’t completely remove a screw or tighten a screw in one effort; run through the cycle several times as this reduces any uneven tension on the metal.

When you have the torque set correctly to 0.45 Nm, you tighten the screw to the point where the screw begins to resist turning and you continue to tighten until the torque drive ‘gives’ and releases any tension. You’ll know what I mean the first time you tighten the screw completely.

I assume you also found the correct size of drive bits to use with the torque screwdriver. Glad the tough part is behind you.

Believe me, this is kind of "black magic" jeje, never used a Wera before, so, I will follow your words...I´ll know what you mean when I get there....but I suppose you are telling me that at some point ( 0.45 Nm ) the Wera will react to pressure and won´t screw anything, will be free of tension....kind of curious ! Looking forward to try.
First gonna get my 2mm Allen or Hex drive!
Next week I will try, keep you updated!
Thanks a lot for super help guys!

EF to PL

You don’t want an Allen key as those are for manual use. You want drive bits with a shank that will fit in the opening of the Wera 7440 torque wrench.

My bits are described as ¼” drive 50mm hex tips. Made in Taiwan for Horizon Hobby (USA, UK, Germany, China). Ten tips from 2mm to 5mm, hex and hex ball and a TXC27 (Torx).

Now that you say, I think I got an old old kit like that with diferent bits that I bought long time ago to keep it in my car and I barely use it.
So, I´m ready to try! Everything on my hands!
