A device that allows for changing SSDs virtually infinitely?

PostSun Jul 08, 2018 2:43 pm

Is there a similar product to the BMD hyperdeck that would allow changing of SSDs during continuous shooting with BMPCC4k?

I'm thinking of long sessions with BMPCC4k at 4k uncompressed RAW and how with only one SSD at a time it would be impossible to record for a longer period of time. Any advice?

The front CFast slot is still functional with a SSD recorder. Maybe you can try it out and use that for bridging the change? I can't tell since never got my SSD filled before making backups.

Oh, I see. So you mean it would go on shooting to the CFast once the SSD is full?

Maybe, at least it does so with two cards. But I can't tell for sure with SSD.

I can't think of a scenario where you would ever need both uncompressed RAW and longer recording than what 3 or 4 tb SSD can hold. Are you sure you would need raw?

If you truly needed ridiculous recording times, I can't see a reason that a USB-C RAID box wouldn't be an option. The LaCie 12Big has USB-C, 72TB and perfectly acceptable write speed.

Uli, the URSA Mini operating system can write to a CFast 2 Card if available when an SSD runs out of capacity. And it can do Dual Card recording if anyone wants to write raw to the SSD and have the alternate frames write to the CFast 2 Card. The system can use a SD card if available.

I know you can combine a CFast and the SSD for higher frame rates in RAW, I just wasn't sure if it works for continuous recording too. But the SD card definitely doesn't combine with anything but another SD card.
