Cheaper/Affordable EVF ( 3rd party) for Ursa Mini 4.6K.

PostTue Jul 17, 2018 7:10 am

Hello Guys + Girls.

I'm seeking a Cheaper EVF option for my Ursa Mini 4.6K.

As many people I'm on a very tight budget And I have no option other than to compromise on quality. ( I would love to buy The BM EVF )
Therefore I require recommendations and suggestions for a EVF ( 3rd party )

Peace and thanks to all.

D.

Are you sure you want an EVF or you just don't want a big bulky monitor?

As most monitors seem to be 7" which I dislike, as 7"+ is great for a 1st AC but horrible for a cam operator on the move.

I feel 5" is the sweet spot for a Cam Op, and I'd even prefer that over an EVF.

Just got the Liliput A5 for only US$149 which I am loving after shooting with it for the first time last weekend:

Hello David

Yes definitely a EVF as I have a overseas project due soon. Where's there bright sunlight. I already have a 7" moniter. So for me a EVF is going to be useful as well.

Cheers
Geoff.

Feelworld make a nice little 3.5" HDMI one for a few hundred dollars - search Ebay. Switch it to B&W and turn on focus peaking. All you need from any EVF is framing, exposure and focus.

Typical: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Feelworld-E ... true&rt=nc

Thanks for the suggestion Craig. However I do prefer a EVF in certain situations and I guess I've become use to having a EVF option in the few years I have been filming.

Did you see the updated post with a link to the EVF? So long as it has a proper diopter adjustment, it might be all you need...

Alphatron EVF.. They are not made anymore.. But they can be pickup as a bargain these days..
Have 3G-sdi in and out.. Have a huge array of functions build in.. Can run on power and battery..

But will cost you a bit more in decent rigging.. And no Tally / rec light..

Thanks, another alternative to the BM EVF. I am going to try my SmallHD 501 w/Sidefinder and a SDI to HDMI (Atomos Cinnect) Converter to see how the Sidefinder dear works out.

Thank you again for the excellent suggestions. I will certainly consider the Alphatron EVF. Searching eBay as we speak.

As i noticed Alphatron EVF is on sale now on bmcuser forum by ericsanpablo, located in Canada.
BTW ericsanpablo was the first person who purchase my custom made HDMI clamp kit for BMMCC, so i can recommend him as trusted customer/seller.

It is also very compact JTZ EVF announced long time ago but they delay sales for many months now. and seems expected price will be about $1250 https://www.facebook.com/JTZTECH/

I use that Alphatron on our UM46P, and while it's a bit bulky and not as elegant as the one from BM, I got mine for about a third of the price of a new BM EVF. It does it's job, that's all I can say.
No, an iGPU is not enough, and you can't use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 in the free version.
