If you’re buying, just watch some of the major internet sellers of used gear such as eBay. In a week or so, you should have a good idea. If you already know a seller, try to negotiate at a price point you find comfortable.

Cameras in good condition may be half their original price, Cameras in near mint condition will not be reduced significantly as the camera can still be bought new and has the same sensor as the flagship URSA Mini Pro.

So you're saying a good price would be around $3000?

In my opinion, yes, more if hardly used and well cared for. Are you looking at a specific camera for sale? What are they asking?

Yes. I pre-ordered the new Pocket, but realized the look doesn't really come close to the URSA so I'm going to keep both. The one I'm interested in costs $3,300. It barely has any scratches and comes with a V-Mount plate and all original accessories. Nothing extra like batteries or memory.

I would agree, 3K. Maybe a little less.

The V Mount is $100, so that makes the camera 3200, try offering $3100?
Cheers.

I’d still offer $3,000 and with the extras, you’ve definitely got a good deal.

They are excellent, hold the charge better than most, and deliver in spades. I have a 5-year old IDX VMount and it still takes a full charge, and outperforms my older Anton Bauer 90s.

Thanks guys. One last question: is it possible to use this camera completely handheld? Meaning, holding it with the side grip in one hand and the bottom of the camera with the other.

I honestly don't have the money right now to buy a shoulder kit.

Yes, especially if you are kneeling for a low shot. But to tack someone walking around, no.
There is a BM shoulder kit complete with VCT14 tripod plate on eBay for $215.

Good to know, maybe I'll pull the trigger. So I should be fine with a shoulder mount and built in monitor? Hopefully it's not too much trouble to skip the EVF and/or external monitor for now.

No, for shoulder work, you need a EVF, ykumwill not be able to see the flip out monitor very well.
Shooting from your shoulder had more to do with balance than anything else. You are becoming the tripod.

So you need three points of contact to hold, the camera steady. Your shoulder, your right hand on a grip, or the Zoom rocker handle on an ENG lens, or relocated BM grip with cine lenses, and your head/eye up to the EVF. This allows you to see, focus and be steady wiht the shot. Save up,and plan to get the BM EVF, keep checking on line stirs for a good deal on a used one, that is how I got mine.

If you need to save on the EVF, you can use the Alphatron with a good arm, it's not as good as the BM EFV, but acceptable. But without an EVF the UM is hardly usable on the shoulder.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

You know what? I'm just going to go completely handheld for now and break my back haha. I'll build my rig slowly when I save more money.

Good idea, but get than BM shoulder kit now, while it is at a good price, it will allow you to mount the camera on sticks and give some padding under it for handheld options. Add the EVF when you can.
I started out with a SmallHD used 501 on the Sidefinder setup to use with my AF 100, giving me both a better monitor, full scopes and EVF option in one package. Later sold it for what I had paid, and got the BM EVF used for $150 more than what the SmallHD setup sold for. Also good prices for come up for the Cineroid Retina EVF, another option, less expensive than the other two.

Good luck, with your purchase, Alex.

Let me put this in plain American English: If you’re built like a NFL lineman or tackle, you may manage truly handheld; but a running halfback or linebacker all shoot with a shoulder mount and a fullback or safety uses a tripod.

Right, Denny, since it’s “age before beauty,” I’ll take safety and you can have fullback.
