BRAW - PCC4K mentioned by Blackmagic

PostFri Sep 14, 2018 12:57 pm

It had been mentioned that the PCC4k will have the BRAW.. I’m wondering if this will be on release (I doubt it), or BM may delay release until this has been implemented (also doubt it).. but who knows! Ability to archive in BM is interesting but struggling to see that advantage.

They’ve posted the user manual for the 4k on the blackmagic website and there’s no mention of it I could see so it’s a pretty safe bet it’ll ship soon with the braw added later via firmware

Where did you see the manual for the Pocket 4k?

Found it - it's interesting that the link on the P4k Tech Spec page opens the wrong manual

Oops

Yes, I noticed that too; it goes to the old manual (for the original Pocket and the other small cameras). I imagine it's on their to-fix list...

Ooops. We will fix that link. In the meantime, use the link from our support page instead.

My understanding is that BRAW is currently in beta. Now I suppose BM could ship beta software in a new product, as if they've never done that before to us. But I would rather they hammer on BRAW for awhile until they've got all the kinks worked out. This is more than just updating the camera, they've got to update Resolve, and right now the current version of Resolve has more errors in it than an early Met's game. Is is so buggy that it is a truly annoying experience to use Resolve 15.X.

Resolve already supports BRAW .. that’s what the .1 update was!! Agree.. nobody (well I sure don’t) likes using beta’s!

Technically the UMP software is a beta version, but the BMraw player and Resolve 15.1 are not (I hope not after 2+ years of development). I’m sure with wide release there will be bugs found and updates done, but that’s all software (so, technically isn’t all software always in beta? :) )
