Shooting a Wedding with Blackmagic RAW and Firmware 6.0

PostSun Sep 23, 2018 12:41 am

I used my Ursa Mini Pro with a Helios 44-2 f2, 58mm lens.

The pluses:
- Saved a lot of space (i usually shoot 4:1 CDNG)
- the latest Resolve version handles it beautifully in Post
- Many compression ratio options ( i went for 12:1)

The Minuses:
- Whenever i STOPPED recording, there was about 2-3 second lag before the recording truly stopped, sometimes i thought i didn't hit the REC button and then once it 'caught up' i ended up started a new clip on accident
- Getting use to the workflow with no Highlight adjustment in Post
- I had one moment when the REC button kept flashing and the timers all froze, i could access the menu, but couldn't get out of whatever was happening. Had to shut down the camera and luckily the footage was all there, but man, panic attack city.

They should have another indicator that it is still processing to avoid confusion. Whatever is the case, you should be able to instantly start a new recording anyway, as it is close to recording a new frame, and the camera can buffer things. You only want to know when it's safe to pull a card or performance an file operating.

It is still BETA!
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Which means it needs more work, and people are indicating their findings, which is what BM wants. Some of these things are likely unknown to them, or in thought of. But trying to shut that down, means it may go to finale release with more things to improve than it would have.

I've done enough bug finding and reporting to leading companies over many many years, to realise how many bugs get through and improvements get passed in the market. In the light of this, such user feedback is very good.

Frank G. said it is very stable, so it should not be an issue, but I had the same thoughts, sounded a bit risky to me also.

Did you see much of the fine macroblocking in the red and blue channels people have been talking about at 3:1?
