B&H, who had listed October 5th, now says November and confirmed that in a chat on Friday. Frustrating, but maybe reflecting time to fix bugs detected in the first shipments to Southeast Asia.

I've got a box: strap, speed booster, 1TB portable SSD, USB cables, and a cold shoe for the 1/4 thread on top. Now all that is needed is the camera.

I think it is safe to say, with the user manual up on the BM Support Page, the new Pocket 4K Cameras have started shipping.

That's awesome! I pre-ordered mine last month with B&H, I hope I'm in the batch that had the Oct 5th release estimate.

Wow, it looks a lot nicer "in person" than in the photos on the BMD website. It seems a bit smaller and sleeker in this photo for some reason.

Yes, it is the new Polycarbonate/Carbon Fiber case instead of the prototype case shown previously.

The shop I preordered at told me yesterday, they are receiving a shipment right now.

Though, they don't know when it will arrive and how many units are beeing shipped. Since I'm #3 in queue, I still have my hopes up. ;)

Yes, I was surprised too. It still is quite big, but feels really light. So responsive and the screen is really nice.
Spent a couple of hours shooting yesterday, awesome camera.
Here is another shot so you can see the back.

Are US shipments delayed? B&H now saying it will be November before they are available. Not sure if that is just a B&H placeholder or what.

I'm getting the same from the local BMD vendors in western Canada, so that very well could be the case.

HotRod Cameras indicated to one of its customers, US shipments will start arriving to the US distributer by the end of this week, Cameras should start arriving to the shops next week. I would not go by what B&H is showing on their site, which has not been updated since last week, and they are closed until Oct. 3.

How's the XLR audio quality? I'm super interested in what this is going to sound like. I'm hoping to be able use a boom mic plugged directly into the camera and get some good audio.

Que, read the caution in the manual about what you screw into the top mounting point. It’s a weakling and you are responsible if you damage it due to weight. They don’t say what is safe though so the warning isn’t going to give much guidance. They do say a cage should be used if you plan to add a handle for example.

Rick, I do not think Que is going to attach the boom mic directly to the camera, a boom mic is normally held by the Sound Guy, or rigged on a stand.

Yeah, just the cable, mini xlr to the mic using say... 15ft cable. Someone holding the mic.

Hey, I haven't had the chance to test the xlr out yet. I have a couple of shotgun mics that I'm keen to try it with. The mics on the body are definitely better than the original pocket though haha. Will do a test on the weekend hopefully. Just posted a quick test shoot below. Will post more footage very soon :).

Florentina, enjoyed that quick post! What do you think of ISO 3200? I’m also curious about how well ISO 6400 performs but I may need to wait another week or two to find out for myself. I’ve heard nothing from my vendor.

Edit
Hope you enjoy what Apple iOS autocorrect thinks your name is! Florent.

Haha, I am used to it !! Glad you liked the short video. I think ISO 3200 is pretty good. You can notice the jump from 1000 to 1250 when the dynamic range resets. 1250 is really clean too. I found that using only native 400 and 3200 might be tricky at time when you need a bit more light but not enough to justify to use 3200. Blackmagic mentioned that footage should look good at any given value. I found 400 to be really good even in slight low lit environment, noise is minimal. I will do more tests soon. In the short video you saw, all footage is from camera in terms of noise.
Hope you'll get yours soon, I think I had one of the first if not the first one in order (regular order I mean) in Australia. Still can't believe it arrived so soon haha.

Thanks for the test video - looked great - and feedback from someone independently just getting out there and shooting. What lenses were you using? They seem to have a really great vintage type character, and with creamy popping colours.

Looks like the Americas region is late to the party this time. My initial tests will be related to using the camera for some theatrical shoots this fall. I’ve had good results with the Mini 4.6K Camera at ISO 800, but I’m eager to see how the Pocket4K will compare shooting with ISO 1250-3200. Less dynamic range of course, but with a proper exposure, the theatrical lighting should be well within 12 stops so that may not a factor at all. Seeing into the shadows cleanly without clipping highlights will be the real test. Having the single frame shutter release may be useful and fun too.

Creatively it could allow me to use the Pocket4K with a SLR Magic 25/32mm APO PL to capture the stage while I shoot with the Fujinon Cine Zoom to follow the principals more closely. Having two cameras intercut will require that I can colour match both cameras at least close enough to be acceptable to the producer. If that works then I can tell another producer, I’ll use two cameras for a concert in December; that performer already has used a professional videographer, so it will be good to know what she thinks of what I come up with. There’s even the chance I’ll be able to use the Tokina Cinema ATX 11-20mm for that shoot. 2018 may be a very memorable year.
