Black sun effect on color science 4 CDNG

PostWed Sep 26, 2018 9:55 am

I have been comparing BRAW vs CDNG and color science 3 vs 4. During my comparisons I have experienced a "black sun" effect on any blown highlights when I use CDNG version 4 with gamma set to BMD Extended Video.

Has anyone else experienced this?

You should report it to BMD along with a CDNG file, there was a thread on facebook where CaptianHook from BMD said he was unable to reproduce that specific error when a user reported it.

I thought CinemaDNG always used Film gamma. Extended Video and Video are additional options when shooting ProRes.

Hi, please provide a DNG frame with specific steps to reproduce this. A user sent me a DNG from Facebook as mentioned above and using the same settings I did not get the same results and didn't hear back from them so need more assistance to reproduce. Thanks!

As I was preparing to post a dng with steps to reproduce I saw that BMD released Resolve 15.1.1.

The problem was occurring in Resolve using the Camera Raw section and selected version 4 and extended video. I am happy to report that after updating to 15.1.1 the problem is gone. Thank you for trying to help.
