Pocket 4K Autofocus w/ Speedbooster

PostWed Oct 03, 2018 11:15 am

Hi!

My Pocket 4K arrived today. My setup is Metabones ULTRA Speedbooster with EF glass.

It seems triggering autofocus doesn't work when using the speedbooster.

Not a massive issue for me, as I never actually use autofocus, I only discovered it because I was trying to test my Bluetooth+ app on the Pocket, and was unable to confirm whether the app's autofocus trigger was working or not.

So I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone could help me with a couple of things...

1. Is everyone in the same boat when it comes to speedboosters and autofocus not working?

2. Is anyone out there with the Pocket 4K and native MFT glass able to test triggering autofocus on the Bluetooth+ app and let me know if it's working ok? I can supply a free download code if you've got the gear but not the app.

Thanks!

Did you test the Push to Focus by tapping on the image on the screen to focus?

Autofocus might be MFT-only. Wasn't that the case with the old pocket, too?

Maybe there has to be an updated firmware installed in the SB? Be aware that the actual SB is not supported officially by metabones (yet).

I could be absolutely wrong but my interpretation of the instructions state that you tap the screen to set the AF point but still need to press the AF button to focus. In other words BM hasn't said that there is actual touch screen AF.

So not to be snide, but did you press the push AF button to focus?

Look around timecode :36. All I see him doing is taping the screen.

This should go without saying but you do need to attach a focus by wire lens.

Yes, with native AF MTF lenses all you need to do is tap the screen.
The Metsbones Speed Booster will need a firmware update to get AF wit EF AF lenses. Same issue when the Pocket came out, the EF SP did not work at first, but did after Metsbones did a FW update.

Hi

Speedbooster XL and Canon 35mm isn't focusing for me either.

I hope we will get firmware update as I do find it handy.

I have a Viltrox EF-M2 and a variety of Sigma and Tokina lenses supporting AF, but none work with the BMPCC4K.

I have asked Viltrox for support - awaiting their response.

No. Autofocus worked with Canon EF glass and Metabones speedbooster.

For Viltrox EF-M2 it might take some time to get firmware to support BMPCC4K fully...

"I am sorry to inform you we do not have any new update firmware now. We also do not have any detailed schedule now. I am really sorry for this inconvenience. Hoping that you can understand."

….they clearly need more reassurance to get the feature in the firmware development queue.

This is assuming the Viltrox (jyk-hk.com) representative understood my e-mail, and had the required information for the reply. With other manufacturers support+tech support this has been a issue before.

I also picked up the Viltrox EF-M2.

No autofocus or IS. But the adapter works really well otherwise. All aperture stuff works fine.
