BMPCC 4K power conector socket type

Hi

Is the BMPCC 4K power conector socket a proprietary one, or is it of a known type that can be bought apart in a shop like mouser, so that we can build our own power cable?
BM sells a set of 3 cables, but you have to buy the complete set, they cost USD 55, and are currently not available at least at B&H.

The cable kit is available, just special order one set. It is an off the shelf connector, there are some other osts here on the type.

Quoting B&H "Also, item BLCCPOC4KDC is only expected in early November" that's what B&H just told me.

Any precise reference for the conector? Couldn't find any...

Thanks :-)

I haven't got my camera yet, so I can't do measurements to check, but I've read (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=80084) that its a Weipu SF610/s2. Looks to be very hard to get. What I am considering is cutting off a section of the cable and connector that comes with the mains power adapter and making it into an adapter cable to cheaper, easy to get connectors.

On my power supply it says on the connector:
WEIPU SF6 Series

I have measured it:
Outer shell: 9.2 mm diameter / wall strength 0.5 mm / largest diameter 9.8 mm
Inner shell: 5.6 mm diameter
Length: 25.9 mm +- 0.2

I think that's an excellent idea. I've searched the entire interwebs and can't find that connector for sale anywhere. I was thinking of using the seemingly standard barrel connector with the screw lock since my monitor uses the same power connector. Any other ideas as to better easy to get connectors? What were you planning on using?

Plan to use my old Production 4k Switronix battery mounted on top of the Pocket 4k.
Is there any adapters (no cable) available for this?

Until this connector becomes easier to procure, perhaps it is easier to use a very easy to find LP dummy battery? I know it's not ideal, but it's better than swapping internal batteries every 30-40 minutes.

Dummy battery is easy way but not very safe. If power regulator fail it will burn camera.
V-mount a bit safer because DC port can receive 12 то 20Volts usualy, and Vmount battery can output only 16.8V max. So Weipu6 to D-tap is good choice )

IndiProCo.com has what you’re looking for if you go the dummy LP-E6 route. I posted links but easy to find on their website. We’re almost forced to go with the dummy LP-E6 because I don’t feel like spending over $500-$600 on a few of these small batteries plus charger. I’d rather spend $500-$600 on two of the larger Sony NP-F970 and a sled and charger.

And all this bother because I can’t get the cable to connect my Cinegears to the 2-pin power connector until sometime in November allegedly. I know, send the bill to BMD!

I have those same switronix batteries. I found Indipro has a v-mount plate with 12v out. I’m looking at that with the Cable pack from BMD - seems like a good pairing, but if anyone has experience with it I’m all ears.

Well, going to use the camera a lot on my Ronin S so LP E-6 dummy will be hard. The Switronix is perfect with the short cable.Just need a small 2.5mm barrel to 2-pin to get it going.

Jerry, that might be a custom built connection from Wooden Camera or DIY and the barrel connector may not be very secure.

I also have a D-tap on that Switronix pack so I hope to find some shorter solution for power.

I also have that Switronix battery pack, with a DC cable. I bought a dummy battery with a DC coupler on, but have been told that if I use it, it may damage the camera. The battery compartment can only take a voltage of around 8v. The Switronix puts out over 14v. It should be fine to run through the 12v power connection on the camera, but not through a dummy battery into the battery compartment.

Good point, Pete. There is a IndiPro battery sled that includes a dummy LP-E6 at 7.2VDC. The sled with dual Nikon NP-F970 batteries and regulated 12VDC is just intended for the 12V 2-pin connector.

Thanks, Joe. “If s the early bird that gets the worm!” So more power to Wooden Camera who will hand build and verify every unit. If I knew my camera was coming I’m not going to complain about spending $24 more on a cable that means I don’t have to spend hundreds more on small batteries as my brick will work. So the cable is justified.

Initially I'll just use 2.5mm DC barrel connectors, simply because I already have some. I can just tape the plug and socket together if I need to ensure they don't come unplugged.
I got the notification that my camera has been posted, so hopefully I'll have it later this week :-)

Gentlemen,

would you mind giving me some advice, plz. The tech specs didn't reveal if I could use an external power solution (correct plug assumed) that delivers

An output voltage and amperage of 14.8VOC and 6.6 Ah
and operates between 12 and 16.8 VOC

as I still have the Bescor belt-battery for my BMCC (https://www.amazon.com/Bescor-Extended- ... B00BMHRG8O)

Thank you!

Thomas, the 2-pin power input will operate from 12-20VDC so no problem there. The D-tap to 2-pin cable is available from Wooden Camera now. It’s cheaper from BMD and the website says “Buy Now” but some uncertainty if it is shipping in October. The Ah is not an issue. The only concern could be the maximum ampere draw that the battery supports.

If you are shooting with a minimal configuration the camera is going to run at 25 watts, but if you add things like a phantom powered mic and an external monitor/recorder, then the draw will increase accordingly. Perhaps if you know the amp rating, you’ll be safe with a draw of 35-40 watts. If the battery amp rating is 3 amps, you’ll be more than fine, if it’s 1.5 amps, it may be inadequate.

I couldn't find any info on that, but could there anything happen to that beauty (I really like how the P4K looks, I'm even hesitating to put a cage on it :) ) besides not being delivered enough power?

No harm if your voltage is 12-20VDC. The only problem which would not harm the camera is if the camera and accessories required 35 watts and your battery could only supply 30 watts. In that situation, I would think the camera would just not function. After you unplugged a couple of accessories, the camera would function normally.

Depending upon the battery, I’d be more concerned about that the health of the battery trying to push too much power. Hopefully it can’t happen. That’s why I liked that Mophie Powerstation 3XL that I posted recently. It can power a 45 watt device, which is likely more than a 3 amp draw. The Powerstation XXL can power 30 watts and that is more than enough for the bare bones camera.

Edit
Sorry, the off-the-shelf Mophie has a USB-C connector that would quickly charge the battery when the camera is off. I was referring to a modified Mophie that would add the proper 2-pin connector so you could use it to power the camera. Somebody will do it.

Thanks again, Rick.

Considering the batteries's reviews and the times I sparely used it I guess it should be fine. Maybe there
arises some small affordable power-solution before the BM-cables are actually being sold. Or I manage to get alog with my LP-E6 batteries and my powerbank to charge them inbetween.

It may not happen in the very near future, but once the BMPCC4K takes off, you’ll see more options that support power to the special 2-pin licking connector as that’s the best solution.

In the meantime, going from a normal V-lock or AB battery brick with the D-tap to 2-pin from BMD or Wooden Camera will do the job without worrying about changing batteries for a few hours to all day depending upon the battery rating.

It is very disappointing that BMD didn't use a more common industry standard for external powering. Which is strange, as normally BMD tries to use something commonly available.

Heck, even if they'd gone with LEMO (as much I hate them being a common industry standard.... gah) that would have been much better!

I've been in touch with the manufacturer of this connector.

I've tracked down one of their distribution channels through alibaba.com who've confirmed they sell directly to Blackmagic Design and that the part number is indeed SF610/P2.

Tristan, I’ve been looking on AliExpress myself but finding them to be quite expensive there. Have you found a decent price or another distribution source without having to buy them in huge amounts? What’s the price you’ve been able to find? I’m sure these will become a fairly common request in the future.

Ray, the camera is just now going into real production. You and the rest of thenpre-production release csmeras are Charlie testers, who did an early adopt of the camera. I did this with the original Pocket Camera, and it was several months before it was actually really ursesble, with the required software and accessories. Just sit back and relax, all will come in good time.

I didn't find them on AliExpress, but alibaba.com.

Weipu sell directly through that website and sell the SF610/P2 in batches of five. The more you buy, the cheaper it gets. If you buy 1000 or more the price is US$2.67 per unit. I'm buying ten, and the price is US$3.74 per unit. Then add postage.

Well, surprise, October is nearly over and the November availability of the BMD D-tap to 2-pin cables should improve. Maybe the parts have been hard to find means that BMD has secured their supply and the part manufacturer hasn’t yet had time to respond to the demand.

Are you sure it isn't the SF610/S2 you're after? As far as I can tell the P = Plug/male, S = Socket/female. The p4k has the male plug, the power cable needs to be a female socket.

I cut the end of my power supply cable and made a pigtail using a locking barrel that goes straight to battery. Works great and I also put a female at the end of the snipped PS cable. But now I can just make a bridging cable to whatever I need to plug into. Once the proprietary connectors wind up on Ebay I'll make another one as a spare. Image (excuse the cat hair)

Yay, my package from Weipu just arrived.

There are two boxes. One with 10 x SF610/S2 & and the other with 10 x SF610/P2. Including postage it ended up being about AU$7.30 per connector.

These were a special order. Once you place the order and pay, Weipu then begin manufacturing them. From order to arrival was less than 3 weeks. The order and communication was made through alibaba.com, and I paid them direct with PayPal. The communication with Emily was really prompt and supportive so I can highly recommend the process.

I've wired tons of mic cables but never a power cable - any tips on the type of wire used/polarity of pins etc. to make sure I don't fry the camera?
