Hi, my brand new LP-E6 blackmagic batteries wont charge with an original canon charger.

Anyone experience troubles with this?

I wanna assume this has something to do with original Canon batteries being 7.2v while Blackmagic and many other third party batteries are 7.4 v. I'm just speculating though.

This is expected. Canon chargers won’t charge some 3rd party batteries.

You may need to charge the BMD battery in camera.

Kristian is correct, and I have yet to find a third party battery that will charge on a OEM Canon Charger. That charger will only charge a OEM Canon LP-E6 Battery. When the Micro camera came out, I tried charging its BM battery on the Canon Charger, did not work, neither did the Watson batteries. Ended up getting a Watson single battery charger, which did work. Watson also makes a nice dual battery charger.

Thank you for the responses. I own 2 other third party batteries which worked with the canon original charger, so i assumed they would work.

None the less, they hold quite a good charge, my BM 5" VA runs 1.5 hours on each of this, luckyly i have another charger which is doing the job. Ill make sure to look out for those watson dual chargers.

I think you just need decoded third party batteries that share information with the device. Black magics LP-E6 don't have this function, some do.
