[Small] Bug report: BMPCC 4K+window sensor

PostSun Oct 21, 2018 6:09 pm

When switching from DCI 4K or UHD to HD, the window sensor mode switches on of its own accord. Hard to miss, since the FOV is dramatically reduced, but take note.

BTW, Sandisk type 1 SD Pro 95gb cards record DCI 4K Prores HQ and raw 4:1 @23.976, though I didn't try for more than a minute. Raw 3:1 will fail in both UHD and 4K after about 15 seconds.

John, that makes sense when you are shooting raw, but ProRes should allow you to go to HD for recording but allow the option to use the UHD angle of view. Can you still turn Window mode Off while recording in HD ProRes?

Yes, you just have to go back into the menu to turn it off in this case.

I don't think any switch to HD Prores from 4K or UHD, raw or not, should trigger HD windowed mode -- not a good assumption on the part of the OS.

John, did you have the camera set for Raw when switching resolution from 4K to HD, or was it set to ProRes? If in Raw recording mode, the camera will switch to the window crop as this is the in,y way to record Raw HD or UHD. In ProRes I would think it would stay in UHD window (this is the 16:9 aspect ratio crop) when switching to UHD or HD, and not go down to the smaller HD window. You can only record full gate, which is 17:9 aspect ratio, when in 4K DCI recording resolution. UHD and HD are a 16:9 native format for TV production.

After a few more experiments, it's proven to be unpredictable. Sometimes going from UHD or 4K to HD activates the window sensor, sometimes it doesn't. 4K or UHD Raw or prores doesn't seem to matter. Both or neither will activate the HD window sensor, seemingly at random.

Fortunately, you can't miss the error when it occurs.

John, I have encountered the same behavior, but haven't been able to replicate it at will. It appeared on the first day while playing around with the camera, but hasn't appeared again since then. It's almost like after you had jumped through all the different settings it's somehow settled.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Hi John,

We certainly do not make that assumption. The only time it will trigger HD windowed mode when going from 4K DCI (or UHD) to HD is when you are recording RAW.
