Firmware 6.0 Brings New Features to Pro

PostWed Nov 14, 2018 3:08 am

Wow! This is a sweet update!
Improvements for URSA Mini Pro
Improved ISO range on URSA Mini Pro.
    Improved in camera playback.
Improved status display info for off-speed.
    Improved responsiveness of color corrector.
    Improved timecode support.
    Improved metadata support.
    Improved shutter metadata.
Add HDR metadata support in SDI stream.
    Add 2:1 monitoring frame guides.
Add ability to lock timecode from SDI Input.
Add frame guide options in SDI Camera Control Protocol.
Fixed LCD clean feed record indicator bug.
    Fixed stills bug.
Updated URSA Mini and SDK manual.

New features for URSA Viewfinder
    Add Generation 4 Color Science.
Add 4.6K Film to Extended Video LUT.
Add support for 2:1 frame guides.
    Improved anamorphic frame guides.
    Improved false color.
Fixed Extended Video 6.0 Beta LUT bug.
    General performance improvements.

My fingers are crossed some of these make their way to the original URSA Mini 4.6K. Especially Blackmagic RAW. I would like the new crop guides. Not sure about ISO 3200, but if possible then by all means it would be welcome. Definitely want Color Science 4 and BRAW however.

Additional Note: Now my URSA Viewfinder is on Firmware 6.0 and my URSA Mini 4.6K Firmware is 4.8. Hope they can soon be on the same firmware.

I have tried many times to download the URSA Mini manual, but it fails to download. Will try tomorrow. Great upgrades today.

No, the Ursa Broadcast is FW 5.x with Color Science 4. ;)
The new Pocket 4K is next, then possibly the UM 4.6...

I’ve had a very quick (10 minutes) play around this evening

I’m very impressed. The iso 3200 looks good, much less grid noise unless you go silly.

I was able to rescue an underexposed shot without it being noticeable.

I love the addition of 2.00 guides, much more likely to get away with this ratio without being asked for the rest of the picture.

And the highlight recovery tick box is in resolve for braw- didn’t get to test that because the shots I took were very dim and underexposed.

Bravo blackmagic well done

How are they doing the ISO improvements? I published some ideas on doing stuff to improve pixel performance by manipulating things including fixed pattern noise compensation.

Really great to see they've worked in highlight recovery for Braw. Would love to see tests.

Nice Update, thanks Blackmagic!

What im missing is a way to swich from V4 to V3 Colour science. For multicamera shoots with the Mini 4.6k.

OR EVEN BETTER, update all Ursa Mini cameras with the ability to used the new V4 Colour Science. Solve many problems with that firmware update.

Thomas, the only way to switch back to Ver 3 Color Science to roll back the firmware to 5.x. Or wait until BM updates the UM 4.6 to the new color science. Meanwhile, you will need to color match in Resolve, which works fairly well from what I have read. You can apply Color 4 to the UM4.6 footage in Resolve.

EXTREMELY disappointed that our (7) Ursa Mini 4.6K cameras seem to be obsolete already.
The smoother remote iris response and time code locking over SDI, two things I've been asking for since the beginning, are now part of the Ursa Mini Pro, but we've been left way behind.

Nobody at Blackmagic can tell me that there is a hardware issue preventing these upgrades in the original Ursa Mini, or if they just aren't bothering issuing updates for these.

The lack of updates and information is incredibly disrespectful to longtime customers.

Let’s be honest, Blackmagic is WELL aware of the community asking for answers. BMD not coming out and presenting a statement hurts. We aren’t asking about a future camera, or speculation, we want to know if our product that we paid for is going to be supported. Nothing more.

I would love to know exactly what has been "improved" in false color.

Blackmagic official statements

Craig Hefferman (BMD Technical Sales Director EMEA)

In this IBC 2018 interview the BMD rep Craig Hefferman says that B-RAW will be out first for UMP, then P4k and then they will look into the other cameras of their cinema line, watch at 4:16

And here too:

We hope so. Please bear with us. We have not forgotten you.

As we said at IBC, we are working on finishing the general release for the Mini Pro. Pocket 4K will be next and we will also look at what other cameras we can get it into.

The good news for the URSA Mini 4.6K is the sensor profiling work is already done.
